System Data

Arryn-Pyrrn System

The primary is Arryn, an enormous red giant star. It has a luminosity of 832 Sols, a mass of 6.52 Sols and a diameter of 133.6 million km – the corona extends as far as 0.44 AU, beyond orbital position (II). The inner system consists of (III) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VI) a cratered vacuum inner world, (VII) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (VIII) a thin atmosphere bigworld – orbital positions (I) and (II) lie within the star and orbital positions (IV) and (V) are empty. (IX) Pyrrn orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (X) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (XI) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (XII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the larger worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IX) Pyrrn

(IX) Pyrrn is designated the mainworld and orbits Arryn at a mean distance of 24.5 AU (3.67 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 47 years 180 days and a rotation period of 18.5 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Pyrrn has a diameter of 6,320 km, a density of 5.87 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.36 G. It is flexed by the tidal effects of its moons and the primary star and is geologically active. The atmosphere is rated as Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.46 bar and a composition of 82% nitrogen (N2), 17% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Pyrrn is a desert world: approximately 4% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 67°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star, sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites:

Pyrrn retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Ember and a vacuum worldlet named Furniss:

(IXa) Ember (UWP Y100000-0, orbits at 9 Diameters/75,000 km)
(IXb) Furniss (UWP H200000-0, orbits at 45 Diameters/375,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 217 million km², Land surface area: 208 million km², Water surface area: 9 million km². Temperatures are broadly habitable in the polar and subpolar regions. These areas have small lakes of warm liquid water, surrounded by dense dwarf Thicketwalds covering millions of km². The polar forests give way to arid stonelands around the temperate zones, then become the Inferno Belt, a continuous scorched desert lying around the tropics and the equator. Equatorial temperatures regularly exceed 100°C and are lethal without personal protection.

Native Lifeforms

Arryn-Pyrrn System

The bigworld lying in orbital position (VIII) (within the H– region of the inner system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and moisture. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

Pyrrn, the mainworld has extensive native life. All local flora (no matter what its species) is referred to as Thicketwald. It is extremely hardy and capable of surviving in very marginal environments: it covers as much as 20% of the surface of the world. The dominant species have extremely long interconnected networks of roots and are able to access water from very deep aquifers. The flora has a tendency towards very short stems and small clusters of flat waxy leaves: foliage is generally dark greyish-green in colour. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Almost all fauna is small, massing no more than 1 kg, and exist within tunnels among the deep roots.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Pyrrn has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Pyrrn possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Pyrrn is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
