World Starport

Proserpina has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

But rather than a simple base of operations, there are facilities for housing workers and their families including hospitals, schools, and other infrastructure. How, or if, the children of the workers are incorporated into the workforce varies with companies. The corporation running the world may be a subsidiary of a larger interstellar corporation.

The corporate charter is to produce starship fuels, sell them as a monopoly, and operate a full service port-of-call to facilitate trade.

World Law Level

Proserpina has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military

The corporate security forces amount to a system military. Proserpina has invested heavily to produce and maintain, 2 battleship capital ships, 6+ destroyer-class missle boats, and 2 to 4 squadrons of system defense boats (SDB). These craft are deployed to ensure that all inbound traffic docks with Proserpina Prime highport for customs. Access to the gas giants by visiting starcraft is explicitly denied; Proserpina Corporation is the sole supplier of all fuels and reaction mass in-system, and will vigorously defend its monopoly. Very vigorously.

Observation: We were immediately hailed upon entering the system by the Battlecruiser Persephone and its escorts, and instructed to follow the provided vector for highport docking. Our response as a Scout Service craft was noted, and we were shifted to a preferred berth. We were greeted upon arrival by a corporate representative, who set us up at the starport hotel and compt our expenses. The next standard day, he provided a full tour of the Class-A highport (see VR materials and documentation), which passed with flying colors. Our craft was topped off with refined fuel overnight (Quality assessment attached). The following standard day, we were invited to Proserpina Prime for dinner with the Corporate Board. During our visit, we were given a rather complete tour of the arcology, which was very modern and comfortable, with just the right balance between automation and the human touch. Dinner was superb, with a variety of drinks and foods from throughout the surrounding subsectors. Our guide, Jim, made a point of hosting us overnight in his condo, which was large enough for all of us once a sofa was converted to a bed. Twilight zone views aren't usually enjoyable for me, but it's a lot better with an Ivraien wine in hand. That said, despite the high-class treatment, the corporate feel was there the whole time, and it was quite obvious that those with few resources are not treated nearly this well. I'd hate to limp here in a pinch and ask for help.
