History & Background (Dossier)

When the John III class came into service, commanders found them generally satisfactory, especially for such a major departure in design philosophy. 16 in service, 8 in construction.

There were complaints, though; Crews complained about the relatively cramped accomodations. Also, the vessels' Shipwrights found potential improvements to be made in onboard damage monitoring and control. The gunnery department noted some possible improvements in weapons battery and control layout. Finally, the Johns expended an unsatisfactory amount of energy cooling their sensor "farms".

These design issues were part of a list of 1,400 changes suggested by officers and crews of the John III class ships. In 1088 design studies began that would lead to the development of the Stuart IV class.

The Stuarts were built at the Armstrong Yard at the Caledon up port starting in 1091.

  • 16 have been completed so far. The completed ships serve in Task Forces 2 and 3 of the Royal Caledon Navy, in Caledon and Stuart, respectively.
  • Eight are currently building, and will replace a number of older battleships which will in turn replace the aging TL-11 ships serving with the Intervention Force.
