Description (Specifications)

Polaris class Corvettes were designed for service with the Bain Defense Squadron, the space force of Bain, a world lying in Spica Sector and a member of the Solomani Confederation. The design is a lightly armored, streamlined cone structure. It is fitted with both fuel scoops and a purification plant to enable wilderness refueling. The vessel is fitted with a single triple laser turret, giving it a reasonable all-round capability. The energy requirements of the weapons systems and the large computer limits the vessel's agility. The vessel is a TL-10 design.

The hull is fully streamlined, giving good atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems. The vessel is fitted with two airlocks. The vessel has a sturdy retractable undercarriage, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x2 personnel. x1 pilot/engineer, x1 gunnery. Accommodations There are 1 Stateroom. The crew quarters are double occupancy. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are two emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-1 drive, a Maneuver-6 drive, and a Power Plant-13, giving performance of Jump-1 and 6-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2 and an emergency agility of 6. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-1s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer: no backup computer is installed. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a standard sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x1 hardpoint. The listed weapons are standard for the class. Alternative weapons systems may be designated for specific missions.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for an Polaris class is: x1 triple Beam Laser turret, forming its own battery.
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 2. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.

9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 40.3 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours.

11.	Construction Time	44 weeks (10 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.

Polaris class Corvettes were designed for service with the Bain Defense Squadron, the space force of Bain, an advancing Solomani world lying in Spica Sector. Though the Polaris class are tiny by the standards of most Solomani Confederation vessels they are occasionally called upon for Confederation service, where their speed, small size and inconspicuous nature are an advantage.
