A unit sized between a Squad and an Company.

A Platoon is typically commanded by a First Lieutenant.

Platoons are routinely deployed by the Imperial Army as part of a Company. The Imperial Marines often field Platoon sized units as Ship's Troops.

n.b. Platoons have no integral logistical support and are not capable of sustained deployments away from such support.

As the unit size one smaller than a Company, this is a long-standing standard definition that has been around since pre-space days.
