The Pirians are a technologically sophisticated sophont species.

Description (Specifications)

The Pirians are a minor Human race native to Piriga (Ianshaplzdier 1325). The Pirians are not radically different from baseline Humaniti. Like the Vilani or the Zhodani, any differences are minor. The primary visible difference is that their hair is usually blue or green, their follicles concentrating cobalt and copper depending on genetics; green is more common.

Physiology & Environment

Hair color aside, Pirians are remarkably similar to Solomani. It is unknown if there used to be some difference that washed out of the gene pool, or if whatever entity was responsible for distributing humaniti wanted a control group of off-Terra humans.

History & Background (Dossier)

Around -4020, Piriga had only achieved TL-1. Archaeological records indicate that the Yaskoydri Technocracy first contacted and attempted to uplift the Pirians at this time, only to suddenly cut off contact. It is suspected that the Technocracy's first doctrinal war from a new wave of immigrants from coreward was about this time. Still, the contact was enough to impart the rudiments of science, allowing them to fully explore and settle their world before the second contact.

Recontact came at about -2530, by which time the Pirians were fully into TL-2 and the Yaskoydri were revered as legendary gods. They set about disabusing the Pirians of this notion and rapidly increasing Pirian technology level until the second doctrinal war caused them to cut off contact again.

This time, the Pirians knew their not-gods were distressed, but had no immediate way to help. Still, their eyes turned to the stars, and in -2102 the Pirians, having just invented radio, sent a powerful broadcast in the direction of Technocracy space. It would take about 100 years for the signal to arrive, but response was immediate: in -2001, a Technocracy scout arrived to find the Pirians spread through their solar system, and imparted knowledge of jump drive so the Pirians could expand through the stars.

For the next thousand years, the Pirians and the Yaskoydri built, grew, and played together, officially all under rule from the Yaskoydri Technocracy, until the third doctrinal war smashed both of their societies. The Pirians misunderstood and thought the Yaskoydri attacked them. It took until the -850s for proof to come forth and grudges to be settled. Even so, the Pirian Domain was founded as a separate entity from the Yaskoydri Technocracy. Eventually, other polities would fragment off the Domain.

Please see AAB articles for the Pirian Domain, Federation of the Fused Mains, and other Pirian polities, for history from -937 on.

Psychology & Philosophy

Culture & Society

Pirian society is, by the standards of Charted Space, rather xenophilic - which has mostly been a nonissue, for want of alien cultures to absorb. Their long association with the Yaskoydri Technocracy has, in some ways, stunted their cultural growth, to the point that it took them about a thousand years and a war to realize they had been practically enslaving the vargr they abducted from Ghoekhnael Sector.

Architecture & Fashion

No information is available yet.

Language & Letters

The Pirians' native language went extinct, replaced with Oynprith, after sustained contact with the Yaskoydri Technocracy was finally established. In the 20s, following contact with the Solomani Preserve, Anglic was officially promoted as a symbol of independence from the Technocracy, quickly becoming the dominant (and, within a century, practically the only still extant) language.
