System Data

Louis-Pastin System

The system primary is Louis, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.668 Sols, a mass of 1.092 Sols and a diameter of 1.536 million km. The inner zone consists of (I) an extremely hot large gas giant – orbital positions (II) and (III) are empty. (IV) a dense atmosphere stormworld orbits within the habitable zone. (V) Pastin, designated the mainworld, (VI) a spectacularly ringed large gas giant, (VII) a vacuum worldlet, and (VIII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Clarkson Subsystem

The companion is Clarkson, a dim red subdwarf star that lies approximately 14,900 AU from Louis. It has a luminosity of 0.0074 Sols, a mass of 0.134 Sols, and a diameter of 212,000 km. (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (III) a small gas giant form the outer system. Only the gas giant retains satellites.

(V) Pastin

(V) Pastin is designated the mainworld. It orbits Louis at a mean distance of 1.88 AU (281 million km), within the outer system, it has an orbital period of 761 days 3 hours and a rotation period 28.25 hours. The axial tilt is 4 degrees. Pastin has a diameter of 10,913 km, a density of 6.25 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.97 G. Its atmosphere is rated as Exotic, with a mean surface pressure of 5.25 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen (N₂), 9% carbon dioxide (CO₂), 2% methane (CH₄), and 1% ethane (C₂H₆), acetylene (C₂H₂), propane (C₃H₈) and other trace gases. Approximately 7% of the surface is covered in lakes of carbon dioxide kept liquid by the high atmospheric pressure and low temperatures. Mean surface temperature: -83°C. The climate is rated as Very Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is very active and violent weather systems driven by the star and the seas scour the globe.

Satellites

Pastin retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Jayeson and a tiny vacuum worldlet named Abazi:

(Va) Jayeson (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 30 Diameters/325,000 km)

(Vb) Abazi (UWP YS00000-0, orbiting at 85 Diameters/925,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 374 million km², Land surface area: 348 million km², Fluid coverage: 26 million km². Much of the world is dominated by rugged mountain ranges and upland areas, principally the Scaramu Heights and the Mons Loroni, divided by broad, relatively smooth basins including the vast Planitia Ordoko. Lakes of liquid carbon dioxide occur in low-lying areas in the northern and southern temperate latitudes. The polar regions have permanent caps of frozen carbon dioxide (dry ice).
