Painkillers, first created at TL–4, are substances that reduce sensitivity to pain. They alleviate symptoms (as opposed to anesthetics, which completely block sensation), but are not as effective as analgesics. A wide variety of substances are used as painkillers and many commercial brands contain additional ingredients (such as caffeine) to improve their efficacy. Painkillers have a cost of Cr1 per dose.
Painkillers may be extremely addictive.
An overdose of painkillers will damage the function of internal organs, particularly the liver and the digestive system. A sufficiently large dose may result in organ failure and death.
