Pador is an industrial, high-population desert hellworld, with a billion or more sophonts struggling to survive in a inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants.
  • This world has no free-standing water.
  • As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Orret Subsector of Far Home Sector.
  • This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
  • Pador directly controls three worlds:

System Data

Zamuz-Pador System

The primary is Zamuz, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.352 Sols, a mass of 0.774 Sols, and a diameter of 1.168 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Pador orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, and (V) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Thless Subsystem

The companion is Thless, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 1210 AU from Zamuz. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.063 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. Thless retains no planetary bodies.

Mainworld Data

(III) Pador

(III) Pador is designated the mainworld. It orbits Zamuz at a mean distance of 0.74 AU (110.7 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 264 days 7 hours and a rotation period of 33.4 hours. The axial tilt is 23 degrees. Pador has a diameter of 8,568 km, a density of 6.61 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.80 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.02 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the extremely low humidity. Approximately 0.03% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 8°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star across the globe.

Satellites

Pador retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Erwin and a corrosive atmosphere inferno world named Postule:

(IIIa) Erwin (UWP F200369-B, orbiting at 35 Diameters/300,000 km)
(IIIb) Postule (UWP H3B0000-0, orbiting at 40 Diameters/345,000 km)

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Total surface area: 231 million km², Land surface area: 224 million km², Water surface area: 7 million km². The surface of Pador is divided into Highland regions (equivalent to continental landmasses) and Lowland regions (equivalent to oceanic basins) - the ratio is approximately 40% highland to 60% lowland.

  • The taint is caused by the absence of water vapor (H2O) in the atmosphere. Breathing the air will cause respiratory ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, blindness, and respiratory failure, as well as dehydration through the depletion of body fluids during respiration.

Native Lifeforms

Zamuz-Pador System

Pador, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Although Pador is technically a desert world (there is no free-standing surface water) the whole of the surface is heavily vegetated. Only the frigid polar zones truly resemble a desert. There are distinct differences between the flora and fauna native to Highland regions and Lowland regions.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background / Dossier

Pador is a long-settled system in the rimward half of Far Home Sector. It has been inhabited for millennia and has a population of 5 billion. It is self-sufficient in food, it is industrialised, and is one of the most technologically advanced worlds within the Distant Fringe. Padoran-built starships are highly sought after.

The world survived the Dark Age with a large population and a comprehensive local infrastructure. Its technological capability developed rapidly during the Renaissance period and at the dawn of the Golden Age. Padoran-built ships were a common sight in the rimward half of Far Home Sector.

World Starport

Pador has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • Peace footing (government modifier x0.5). Port Capacity: 2,500,000 dTons

Pador is the premier builder of starships within the Distant Fringe. All other manufacturers and ports measure themselves against Padori shipyards.

Facilities

Port facilities within the system include:

World Technology Level

Pador possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Pador is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are young governments, coming as a recent change and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

World Economy

  • Resources: D (Very abundant)
  • Labor: 8 (Hundreds of millions)
  • Infrastructure: B (Very extensive)
  • Efficiency: +0 (Normal)

Trade Data

A number of important companies have their headquarters at Pador:
