Oumuu is a water world with 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Oumuu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Kirkuu Aak.

Astrography and planetology[edit]

Oumuu is located on the Vilani Main. There is considerable volcanic activity on Oumuu, which has led to the existing sulphurous taint in the atmosphere, which gives the ocean its distinct yellowish hue. This gives the world some of the most spectacular sunsets in the subsector.

History and background[edit]

Oumuu was originally settled by employees of the three major corporations of Zugaa (Dagudashaag 2710), brought in by Sternmetal Horizons as sub-contractors to exploit newly discovered mineral resources. The Zugaan corporations were contracted for their expertise in water world operations. The volcanic activity on Oumuu has produced a large number of sea bed 'black smokers', volcanic vents erupting under extreme pressure. The Stermetal mineral operations were begun to exploit these resources.

After several decades Sternmetal decided the operation was not profitable enough to justify the resource expenditures, and the megacorporation decided to terminate its operations. The original Zugaan employees, who considered themselves Oumuun, and wished to stay. Sternmetal agreed to leave them most of the equipment and resources in return for a percentage of any future mineral exports.

The new Oumuus still identified strongly with their parent company, and the three original settlements formed the basis for the mini-states that make up the present day Oumuu. Relations between the three have often been uneasy, but are particularly troubled at present.

The largest settlement, New Shurrupuk, is built on a volcanic island chain. Imirisshiban is also built on a much more stable island chain. The third is Kuyperton is not on an island but a floating assemblage of floating factories, ships, and dwellings bolted and strapped together, and forming a tangled warren.

The volcanic activity on the New Shurrupuk islands has increased in recent years, making the settlement more dangerous and less livable. The ongoing concern is the government will try and move their population to another island chain against the wishes of the other two settlements.

Interstellar Petrochemical Processing, a Sternmetal Horizons subsidiary, is quietly exploring re-entering Oumuu.
