The OTU or Official Traveller Universe is the baseline background and setting for Traveller and started being developed in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

History & Background (Dossier)
- Note-1: Since the GURPS Traveller Universe doesn't diverge from the OTU until a short time before 1116, anything published for GURPS Traveller that applies to events earlier than 1116 or so also applies to the OTU.
- Note-2: The first few original LBB Traveller books did not yet have a developed OTU and were a generic RPG system, meant to be used as a template for other sci-fi backgrounds. The OTU developed later and became the default setting.
