Newcastle is a rich, agricultural world with improving living conditions due to a bustling agro-economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- This world is rich with high-grade living conditions, a good climate, and a non-harmful environment. Immigration registration for this world is always in high demand.
- It is a client state of the Third Imperium in the Anarsi Subsector of Vland Sector.
- It is a balmy tropical world, with a climate of high temperatures.
- This world contains an archaeological site with suspected high-tech remnants of the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
- The world was home to a population of Terran Dolphins: their current status is uncertain.
- During the Long Night this world was named Khushuush Giiim.
- Newcastle is located on the Vilani Main.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Newcastle has a solitary primary star named Champ.
- It is a red main sequence.

System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- Newcastle, a rich agricultural world with a tropical climate designated as the mainworld. It is the innermost world, orbiting within the stars narrow habitable zone.
- Parcells, a cold, marginally habitable very thin atmosphere world lying just beyond the outer edge of the habitable zone.
- Amity, a small gas giant orbiting in the outer system.
- Hurn, a large gas giant with a family of moons, orbiting in the cold outer system.
- Three tiny vacuum worldlets orbiting in the deep outer system. They are designated alpha (α), beta (β), and gamma (γ) respectively.
- A small, frigidly cold, ice capped vacuum world marking the outer edge of the system. It is designated delta (δ).

Mainworld Data
Mainworld Size (S)
Newcastle is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Newcastle has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Newcastle has 65-75% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

History & Background (Dossier)
The Ancients were active on the world, placing many Terran species on its surface, including a population of Dolphins.
- The Dolphins of Newcastle are believed to be extinct.
Newcastle is located on the Vilani Main, in the neutral space between the Imperium and the Vargr. The world was settled before the founding of the Ziru Sirka and until the Long Night it was known by its Vilani name, Khushuush Giiim. It hosted a Scout Base during the Rule of Man. It was overrun by Vargr towards the end of the Long Night but was never occupied. It remained neutral when the young Third Imperium's borders were fixed.
World Starport (St)
Newcastle has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)
Newcastle has a population of 80,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).
Urbanization
Approximately 97% of Newcastle's population lives in small rural communities spread across the worlds continents. Its chief cities are:
- Seward (population 873,000), an important agricultural center, the seat of government, and the capital city of the world.
- Irwen (population 666,000), a major fishing center.
- Gilhurn (population 327,000), primarily a fishing center.
- Thurston (population 225,000) an important agricultural center and the site of the world's starport.
- Charnelton (population 216,000), fishing and mineral extraction.
- Morely (population 129,000), mineral extraction and processing.
World Technology Level (T)
Newcastle possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)
Newcastle is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Law (L)
Newcastle has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
Trade Data
- Importance: 1 (ordinary)
Newcastle's primary products are agricultural and marine produce, computer software, documents and records, compounds, crystals, non-metal minerals, and metals.
World Economy
- Resources: B (abundant)
- Labor: 6 (millions)
- Infrastructure: 9 (extensive)
- Efficiency: +2 (good)
World Culture
- Heterogenity: 8 (discordant)
- Acceptance: 8 (friendly)

- circa -1700: Vargr rimward expansion gradually ceases: the border between human and Vargr space stabilizes.
- -1776 to 0: the Long Night. There is widespread regression within the area and some worlds become barren.
- The Year 0: the Third Imperium is founded.
- 300-420: the First Survey charts the system.
- 604 to 622: the Imperial Civil War. The region suffers disruption and widespread economic issues.
- 624: the Express Boat Network is established, facilitating communications, trade, and economic growth within the area.
- 995-1065: the Second Survey charts the system.
- 1065: the Second Survey is published. Information about the system becomes widely available.
- 1104: the world is overrun by Vargr corsairs.
History-Era: Rebellion
Newcastle has been under the control of numerous Vargr corsairs since 1104. During that year Vargr corsairs overwhelmed the relatively low-tech defenses and took over the planet completely. This system learned the hard way that system defense boats are essential for border planets.
- It is believed that Newcastle has served as the jump off point for many of the Vargr corsair advances between 1113 and 1115.
- Although clandestine surveys of the system have failed to turn up any conclusive evidence of a Corsair Base, computer analysis of traffic patterns repeatedly show Newcastle as the hub.
