Naquar is an icy, low-population world, with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • This world is directly controlled by Pador, which maintains a prison facility on the surface.

Astrography and Planetology

This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

  • Naquar is a prison-world holding some of the worst offenders in Padoran society. Access to the prison facilities is restricted.
  • The Naquar system is a part of the Pador-Aredian Cluster.

System Data

Verdur-Naquar System

The primary is Verdur, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) Naquar orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a vacuum iceworld, (III) a small gas giant, (IV) a small ice giant, (V) an exotic atmosphere radworld, and (VI) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Lax Subsystem

The companion is Lax, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 550 AU from Verdur and with an orbital period of 19,100 years. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.061 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld, (II) a vacuum worldlet, and (III) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. None of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I) Naquar

(I) Naquar is designated the mainworld. It orbits Verdur at a mean distance of 0.14 AU (20.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 28 days 7 hours: it is tidally locked to Verdur. The axial tilt is 6 degrees. Naquar has a diameter of 4,271 km, a density of 3.98 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.24 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Verdur cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Trace, with a mean surface pressure of 0.05 bar and a composition of 93% carbon dioxide (CO2), 6% nitrogen (N2), and 1% argon (Ar), methane (CH4), water vapor (H2O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 23% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -65°C. The climate is rated as Very Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is ethereal and very weak weather systems driven by the star ghost across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 57.3 million km², Land surface area: 44.1 million km², Ice surface area: 13.2 million km².

  • Naquar is a Twilight Zone World. Much of the ice is concentrated on the dark face of the world.
  • The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.

Native Lifeforms

Verdur-Naquar System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

Lax Subsystem

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Naquar has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Naquar possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Naquar has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
