Monos is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Aredian Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- Monos is a Voluntarily Regressive World
Astrography and Planetology

System Data
Solon-Monos System
The primary is Solon, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.42 Sols, a mass of 0.825 Sols, and a diameter of 1.263 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a trace atmosphere inner world, and (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world. (III) Monos orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VI) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (VII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(III) Monos
(III) Monos is designated the mainworld. It orbits Solon at a mean distance of 0.61 AU (91.3 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 191 days 14 hours and a rotation period of 21.5 hours. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Monos has a diameter of 10,129 km, a density of 4.02 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.58 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.91 bar and a composition of 76% nitrogen (N2), 23% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by concentrations of airborne toxins of organic origin. Approximately 36% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.2m. Mean surface temperature: 11°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star and the seas work across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 322 million km², Land surface area: 206 million km², Water surface area: 116 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Solon-Monos System
Monos, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Monos has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Monos possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World government
Monos is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
