Momal is a nonindustrial vacuum world, which warrants hazardous environment precautions.

  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Jerik Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data

Utar-Momal System

The primary is Utar, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I-I) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (I-II) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (III) Arivasal, an exotic atmosphere stormworld: (IIIb) Momal is its outer satellite and is designated the mainworld, (IV) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (V) a large gas giant, (VI) a ringed small gas giant, and (VII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(III) Arivasal

(III) Arivasal (UWP Y7A0000-0) is designated a stormworld. It orbits Utar at a mean distance of 0.77 AU (115.2 million km), within the outer system. It has an orbital period of 1 year 28 days and a rotation period of 33 hours. The axial tilt is 42 degrees. Arivasal has a diameter of 11,135 km, a density of 5.33 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.84 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Exotic, with a mean surface pressure of 1.21 bar and a composition of 96% nitrogen, (N2), 2% carbon dioxide (CO2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), abiotic oxygen (O2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The world has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: -122°C. The climate is rated as Frigid and experiences major seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is very active and violent weather systems driven by the star scour the globe.

Satellites

Arivasal retains two natural satellites, an ice-capped vacuum worldlet named Salk and Momal, designated the mainworld:

(IIIa) Salk (UWP Y101000, orbiting at 15 Diameters/100,000 km)
(IIIb) Momal (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 35 Diameters/390,000 km)

Mainworld Data

(IIIb) Momal

(IIIb) Momal is the outer of the two major moons of (III) Arivasal and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 35 diameters (390,000 km), with an orbital period of 29 days 10 hours: it is tidally locked to Arivasal. The axial tilt is 1 degree relative to Arivasal. Momal has a diameter of 3,529 km, a density of 4.97 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.25 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Arivasal cause regular geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. The world has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: -145°C.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 39 million km².

Native Lifeforms

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Momal has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Momal possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government

Momal is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
