Mengo is a rich, agricultural garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Brink Subsector of Shadow Rift Sector.
- This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- This world is a part of the False Bridge Trace.

System Data[edit]
Poltiss-Mengo System[edit]
The primary is Poltiss, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 2.126 Sols, a mass of 1.144 Sols, and a diameter of 1.639 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum inner world, (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (III) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world. (IV) Mengo orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (V) a small gas giant, (VI) a ringed large gas giant, (VII) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VIII) a large gas giant, and (IX) a small ice giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(IV) Mengo[edit]
(IV) Mengo is designated the mainworld. It orbits Poltiss at a mean distance of 1.11 AU (166.1 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 1 year 34 days and a rotation period of 34 hours. The axial tilt is 21 degrees. Mengo has a diameter of 10,366 km, a density of 5.62 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.79 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.96 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 69% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 26°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and moderate weather systems driven by the star and the oceans work across the globe.
Satellites[edit]
World retains two natural satellites, a vacuum worldlet named Sassum and a very thin atmosphere hospitable world named Tager:
- (IVa) Sassum (UWP G100364-8, orbiting at 9 Diameters/95,000 km)
- (IVb) Tager (UWP F322466-8, orbiting at 35 Diameters/365,000 km)
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 338 million km², Water surface area: 233 million km², Land surface area: 105 million km².
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Poltiss-Mengo System[edit]
The hot marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (III) (within the H– region of the inner system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and moisture. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
Mengo, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Tager, Mengo's temperate outer moon, has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The system is the site of the Mengo Deep Space Optical Array, a facility maintained and operated by the University of Tal Varisa Deep Sky Program.
- The system is also known as the last place in the Distant Fringe to have seen Voyagers.
World starport[edit]
Mengo has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World technology level[edit]
Mengo possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World government[edit]
Mengo is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
World military[edit]
Colonel Ace Hodges commands an elite self defense battalion code named A7. They are equipped with imported TL–A vehicles and weapons. Foreign Mercenary officers serve as military advisors and help provide technical support for imported parts and spares. These Hessians form the cadre nucleus of the A7 Security Battalion.
