__NOTOC__
+
Mavuzog Sector is a far off backwater sector containing several pocket empires.
+
* It is part of Charted Space.
+
* Although the region is a frontier, it is relatively heavily settled and well developed.
+

+
Description (Specifications)
+
Mavuzog Sector is a long-populated region lying on the far spinward edge of Charted Space.
+
* It is dominated by non-human sophonts.
+
* The resources of the sector are being exploited.
+

+
Astrographic Features & Trade Routes
+
The following astrographic and commercial data regarding the sector has been determined:
+

+
The sector was initially surveyed during the Imperial First Survey.
+
* First Survey primary data regarding the sector was very fragmented.
+
* The data drew heavily on the records and accounts of previous explorers within the region.
+

+
The sector was extensively surveyed during the Imperial Second Survey.
+
* A few IISS personnel based at Pautho, in Theta Borealis Sector, were able to personally gather limited amounts of data at great personal risk.
We salute their valor and honor the fallen.
+
* Much of the updated data relating to the sector was based on remote long-term observations done over approximately 70 years (from 995 to 1065).
+
* Most of the output from these observations was automatically collated and generated and may occasionally contain errors.
+

+
Stellar Distribution
+
A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Mavuzog Sector.
+
* The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
+
* The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
+

+
Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.
+
* Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
+
* Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.
+

+
Rifts & Voids
+
Large rift areas are very much characteristic of Mavuzog Sector, running generally from the coreward-trailing corner of the sector towards spinward-rimward.
+

+
A simple chart showing rift regions within Mavuzog Sector.
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
+

+
The various rift regions within the sector have been named.
+
* The Marapagas Void and the Gulf of Dalevon mark the coreward edge of the sector.
+
* The central-coreward regions of the sector have a scattering of small rifts: the Varcith Rift, the Gulf of Siridor, and the Vari Gap.
+
* The great Talokan Void dominates the spinward-rimward quadrant of the sector.
+
** It lies close to two associated rifts, the Shimmer Rift and the Oscuro Void.
+

+
These scattered rift regions are part of a huge complex of rifts and voids running generally parallel to the coreward edge of the Great Rift.
+
* They are collectively referred to as the Idella Rift, despite that rift being an astrographic feature in its own right.
+
* The rifts appear to be associated with the Borealis Group, a huge spiral of giant stars centered on the supergiant Theta Borealis.
+

+

(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).
+
* The supergiant star Theta Borealis is marked in red.
+

+
The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is 12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.
+
* This level of technology allows the routine use of up to Jump-3 drives.
+
* Locally, areas that cannot be routinely crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rift regions.
+

+
Borealis Group
+
The trailing skies of Mavuzog Sector are dominated by the Borealis Group, a very large cluster of stars containing an unusually high number of giant stars.
+
* It primarily lies within Theta Borealis Sector.
+
* It is an astrographic feature visible across the whole of Charted Space.
+
* It is centered on the supergiant star Theta Borealis.
+

+

+

+

+

+
The skies within the region are spectacular. Some of the brighter stars can be seen from the surfaces of worlds during daylight hours.
+

+
Significant Stars
The brightest stars in the group are called the Borealean Stars. They include:
+
* Theta Borealis: A7 Ia Supergiant, Luminosity: 73,000 sols.
+
* Sigma Borealis: M9 II Bright Giant, Luminosity: 16,200 sols.
+
* Tau Borealis: M9 II Bright Giant, Luminosity: 16,200 sols.
+
* Kappa Borealis: A3 Ib Supergiant, Luminosity: 13,000 sols.
+

+
They are surrounded by more than sixty other giant and subgiant stars, some almost as bright as the named giants, as well as numerous main sequence stars and white dwarfs.
+

+
World Listings
+
Comprehensive Second Survey UWP data for all worlds lying within Mavuzog Sector is available.
+
* The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
+
* Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
+
* Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
+
* Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.
+

+
AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:
+

+
Mavuzog
+

+
Note that some Second Survey data, though only 40 years old, may already be out of date.
+
* Verified updated data is constantly sought.

Jaibok Raiders
+
Jaibok raiders pose a considerable risk to interstellar trade and commerce within the sector.
+

+

+
A number of trade routes exist within this area. Of these, the most important are:
+

+
Korsumug Main
+
The Korsumug Main, the great chain of Jump-1 systems linking Astron Sector, Theta Borealis Sector, and Mavuzog Sector, runs through the region.
+
* It is also known as the Thetan Main.
+
* It passes through the spectacular heart of the Borealis Group.
+
* The narrow bridge of stars that carries the Main across the Thetan Rifts is known as the Korsumug Gate.
+
* Korsumug raiders cruise the Main, looking for plunder, resources, and glory.

Meta-History & Background
+
Nexur Cluster
Mavuzog Sector was designed by Ade Stewart.
+
The Nexur Cluster is named for the yellow giant primary star of the Nexur system.
----
+
* It straddles the border between Mavuzog Sector and Theta Borealis Sector.
# In 1981, Theta Borealis Sector was published by Group One: this work forms the foundation for Mavuzog Sector.
+
* It contains the homeworld of the Jansa.
----
+
* It is considered the heartland of the Korsumug Empire.
* It has not been T5 Second Survey reviewed and updated to T5 standards.

Nomad Ports
This sector has been known by different names to different groups over its existence including the following:
+
Large tanker vessels occasionally pair with commercial tenders, vessels equipped to carry out field maintenance and repairs on smaller craft. These two vessels, working together, can temporarily provide some equivalence to Class B starport facilities on frontier worlds. Such outfits are usually escorted by one or more Starmerc warships, such as fast gunboats or armored escorts.

+
The Ancients are known to have been active in the sector. There are remains and artifacts dating to more than a quarter of a million years ago. Between those distant times and the "modern" era (the beginning of the Vilani Imperium onwards) there are no indications that any sophonts were active at an interstellar level within the sector.
+
* The Vilani discovered jump technology in -9235 / ca 4700BC but ceased exploration and closed their borders long before any explorers ventured close to Mavuzog Sector.
+
* The Zhodani discovered jump technology in -5415 / ca 900BC. It is quite likely that a few of their vessels passed through the sector, though they have left no discernible trace.
+

+
The first humans to definitely enter the region were rugged Terran explorers and pioneers, equipped with their still-new FTL drive technology and eager to open up a distant frontier.
+
* Terrans discovered Jump Drives in -2431 / 2088AD.
+
* Surviving records indicate that the first Terrans had entered the sector by around the end of the First Interstellar War, in -2396 / 2123AD.
+

+
In under four decades a few adventurous Terrans had travelled many hundreds of parsecs from their homeworld, first heading coreward, somehow managing to cross the entire First Imperium and avoiding the emerging peril of raiding Vargr, finding the path across the Great Rift through Corridor Sector, before pushing on to spinward, into the vast wilderness Behind the Claw.
+

+
The technologically sophisticated Jansa, a species native to Jansazar, acquired knowledge of jump technology from these first far-flung human travellers. By the middle years of the -2300s / ca 2170 AD they had constructed at least one operational FTL vessel, the first species native to the region to have independent jump capability.
+
* The Jansa slowly explored their local area and discovered the Jaibok of Vech. Evidence suggests human explorers had contacted the Jaibok around a decade earlier, but didn't survive the experience.
+
* First contact between the Jansa and the Jaibok is considered to be the beginning of the Korsumug Empire.

Mavuzog Sector is a far off backwater sector containing several pocket empires.

  • It is part of Charted Space.
  • Although the region is a frontier, it is relatively heavily settled and well developed.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Mavuzog Sector is a long-populated region lying on the far spinward edge of Charted Space.

  • It is dominated by non-human sophonts.
  • The resources of the sector are being exploited.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]

The following astrographic and commercial data regarding the sector has been determined:

The sector was initially surveyed during the Imperial First Survey.

  • First Survey primary data regarding the sector was very fragmented.
  • The data drew heavily on the records and accounts of previous explorers within the region.

The sector was extensively surveyed during the Imperial Second Survey.

  • A few IISS personnel based at Pautho, in Theta Borealis Sector, were able to personally gather limited amounts of data at great personal risk.
We salute their valor and honor the fallen.
  • Much of the updated data relating to the sector was based on remote long-term observations done over approximately 70 years (from 995 to 1065).
  • Most of the output from these observations was automatically collated and generated and may occasionally contain errors.

Stellar Distribution[edit]

A basic map showing the distribution and size of stars within Mavuzog Sector.

  • The color corresponds to the visible color of the star, which links to its spectral classification.
  • The size as shown indicates both the physical size of the object and its relative brightness.

Mavuzog Sector Star Chart.png
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).

Note that the stars as depicted are representative. Any star, no matter what its size, is a mere speck within the hex it occupies.

  • Ordinary main sequence stars can barely be seen from even a hex away.
  • Huge, intensely luminous giant stars can be seen from across the sector and far beyond.

Rifts & Voids[edit]

Large rift areas are very much characteristic of Mavuzog Sector, running generally from the coreward-trailing corner of the sector towards spinward-rimward.

A simple chart showing rift regions within Mavuzog Sector.

Chart Mavuzog Rift Regions Named.png
(Chart sourced from Traveller Map).

The various rift regions within the sector have been named.

These scattered rift regions are part of a huge complex of rifts and voids running generally parallel to the coreward edge of the Great Rift.

  • They are collectively referred to as the Idella Rift, despite that rift being an astrographic feature in its own right.
  • The rifts appear to be associated with the Borealis Group, a huge spiral of giant stars centered on the supergiant Theta Borealis.

The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is TL–12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.

Borealis Group[edit]

The trailing skies of Mavuzog Sector are dominated by the Borealis Group, a very large cluster of stars containing an unusually high number of giant stars.

Chart Borealis Group Stellar.png

Theta Borealis Bright Stars 2.jpg

The skies within the region are spectacular. Some of the brighter stars can be seen from the surfaces of worlds during daylight hours.

Significant Stars
The brightest stars in the group are called the Borealean Stars. They include:

They are surrounded by more than sixty other giant and subgiant stars, some almost as bright as the named giants, as well as numerous main sequence stars and white dwarfs.

World Listings[edit]

Comprehensive Second Survey UWP data for all worlds lying within Mavuzog Sector is available.

  • The primary source material for all data is Traveller Map.
  • Other sources may differ: some elements of the data may be contradictory or incorrect.
  • Data is occasionally updated as new information becomes available.
  • Scouting missions gathering reliable, verified data can receive substantial payment.

AAB library archives contain expanded data about the following systems:

Several major corporations operate within the sector:

Shipbuilding[edit]

Worlds with Class A Starports are able to manufacture starships. Shipyard capacity is based on local population and tech level.

Non-industrial and low population worlds are rarely able to undertake manufacturing.

Jaibok Raiders[edit]

Jaibok raiders pose a considerable risk to interstellar trade and commerce within the sector.

Jaibok Ship Image.jpg

Raiders may be individual opportunists, part of an organised private venture, or operating as part of the Imperial Korsumug Navy.

Trade Routes[edit]

Importance (highlighted in green)

A number of trade routes exist within this area. Of these, the most important are:

Korsumug Main[edit]

The Korsumug Main, the great chain of Jump-1 systems linking Astron Sector, Theta Borealis Sector, and Mavuzog Sector, runs through the region.

Nexur Cluster[edit]

The Nexur Cluster is named for the yellow giant primary star of the Nexur system.

Nomad Ports[edit]

Large tanker vessels occasionally pair with commercial tenders, vessels equipped to carry out field maintenance and repairs on smaller craft. These two vessels, working together, can temporarily provide some equivalence to Class B starport facilities on frontier worlds. Such outfits are usually escorted by one or more Starmerc warships, such as fast gunboats or armored escorts.

  • The Nomad Port moves from system to system, usually working to an established itinerary.
  • The arrival of a Nomad Port is often timed to coincide with a harvest or a local festival, when in-system traffic is likely to be higher.
  • Well equipped private security forces are usually retained.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Comp-Prog-Dav-R-Deitrick-Starter-Trav-Page-16 16-July-2018a.jpg

The Ancients are known to have been active in the sector. There are remains and artifacts dating to more than a quarter of a million years ago. Between those distant times and the "modern" era (the beginning of the Vilani Imperium onwards) there are no indications that any sophonts were active at an interstellar level within the sector.

The first humans to definitely enter the region were rugged Terran explorers and pioneers, equipped with their still-new FTL drive technology and eager to open up a distant frontier.

  • The Jansa slowly explored their local area and discovered the Jaibok of Vech. Evidence suggests human explorers had contacted the Jaibok around a decade earlier, but didn't survive the experience.
  • First contact between the Jansa and the Jaibok is considered to be the beginning of the Korsumug Empire.
