Maujen is a poor, non-agricultural world.
- It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- Life is trying on a world like this and inhabitants are constantly working towards developing a reliable source of food production.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Velous Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- This world lies on the Kuyt Chain Star Lane.

System Data[edit]
Smolder-Maujen System[edit]
The primary is Smolder, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I) Maujen orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (IV) a dense stony planetoid belt, (V) a large gas giant, (VI-I) a ringed large gas giant, (VI-II) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (VII-I) a vacuum worldlet (VII-II) a vacuum worldlet, and (VIII) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld data[edit]
(I) Maujen[edit]
(I) Maujen is designated the mainworld. It orbits Smolder at a mean distance of 0.19 AU (28.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 43 days 6 hours: it is tidally locked to Smolder. The axial tilt is 4 degrees. Maujen has a diameter of 6,287 km, a density of 5.21 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.46 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.33 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N2), 18% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 27% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.4m. Mean surface temperature: 13°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is slow and minor weather systems driven by the star and the seas drift across the globe.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
This world is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
This world has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
This world has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 146 million km², Land surface area: 107 million km², Water surface area: 29 million km².
- The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.
- Maujen is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Smolder-Maujen System[edit]
No world in the system is known to have native life.
- Maujen, the mainworld, has been colonised by a variety of offworld microscopic organisms that grow in such profusion around the shores of the seas that their metabolic processes have begun to alter the composition of the atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Maujen has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- Peace footing (government modifier x1.1). Port Capacity: 44,000 dTons
Facilities[edit]
Port facilities within the system include:
World technology level[edit]
Maujen possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World government[edit]
Maujen is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
World military[edit]
The Maujen Defense Bureau is charged with protecting civil liberties through the judicious application of force.
