Margot is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Redoubt Subsector of Divide Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Hylan Spur.

System Data
Fonteyn System
The primary is Fonteyn, an orange subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 4.67 Sols, a mass of 2.3 Sols, and a diameter of 4.59 million km. The inner system consists of (IV) a vacuum worldlet – orbital positions (I), (II) and (III) are empty. (V) an exotic atmosphere stormworld orbits within the habitable zone. (VI) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (VII-I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (VII-II) a vacuum worldlet, and (VIII) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Chimbur Subsystem
The companion is Chimbur, a dwarf star lying approximately 740 AU from Fonteyn. It has a luminosity of 0.00003 Sols, a mass of 1.11 Sols, and a diameter of 8,350 km. It retains (I) a sparse stony planetoid belt.
Samaska-Margot Subsystem
The far companion is Samaska, an ordinary red main sequence star lying approximately 2,320 AU from Fonteyn. It has a luminosity of 0.0334 Sols, a mass of 0.4574 Sols, and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) Margot orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (IV) a exotic atmosphere stormworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(I) Margot
(I) Margot is designated the mainworld. It orbits Samaska at a mean distance of 0.21 AU (31.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 51 days 23 hours: it is tidally locked to Samaska. The axial tilt is 7 degrees. Margot has a diameter of 6,627 km, a density of 5.18 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.49 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of [Parent World] cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.08 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by gases of volcanic origin. Approximately 54% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.6m. Mean surface temperature: 23°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Warm and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 138 million km², Water surface area: 75 million km², Land surface area: 63 million km².
- Margot is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native Lifeforms
Fonteyn System
No world in the system is known to have native life.
Chimbur Subsystem
No body in the subsystem is known to have native life.
Samaska-Margot Subsystem
Margot, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (II) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the subsystem is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Margot has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Margot possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion, and the most fundamental atomic energy.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ground cars or automobiles and tracked vehicles.
- Water: Large ships and submersibles with steel hulls.
- Air: Early aircraft including seaplanes and very early unmanned rockets.
World government
Margot is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
