Mar Isher is a high-population, industrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water and a billion or more sophonts in population size.

  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
  • Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Irikusk Subsector of Far Home Sector.
  • This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.

System Data

Turek-Mar Isher System

The primary is Turek, an ordinary yellow main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 1.21 Sols, a mass of 1.04 Sols, and a diameter of 1.433 million km. (I) The inner system consists of a vacuum inner world, (II) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (III) Mar Isher, designated the mainworld. (IV) a dense atmosphere hospitable world orbits within the habitable zone. (V) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VI) a dense stony planetoid belt, (VII) a large gas giant, (VIII) a ringed large gas giant, and (IX) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Sallam-Oshek Subsystem

The companion is Sallam, a dim red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00104 Sols, a mass of 0.082 Sols, and a diameter of 110,000 km. The far companion is Oshek, a dim red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00103 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols, and a diameter of 109,000 km. Sallam and Oshek lie approximately 550 AU from Turek: they orbit one another at a mean separation of 0.15 AU and have an orbital period around their barycenter of 18 days 16 hours. (III-I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (III-II) a vacuum iceworld, (IV) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (V) a dense icy planetoid belt, (VI) a small ice giant, and (VII) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system – orbital positions (I) and (II) are unavailable due to the presence of the two companion stars. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(III) Mar Isher

(III) Mar Isher is designated the mainworld. It orbits Turek at a mean distance of 0.82 AU (122.7 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 265 days 23 hours and a rotation period of 22.5 hours. The axial tilt is 18 degrees. Mar Isher has a diameter of 11,762 km, a density of 6.88 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.15 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.14 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by a pervasive, nauseating odor of organic origin that triggers a gagging reflex in humans. Approximately 99.9% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1m. Mean surface temperature: 12°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is very active and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.

Satellite

Mar Isher retains a single natural satellite, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Vargon:

(IIIa) Vargon (UWP G200413-A, orbiting at 20 Diameters/235,000 km)

Mainworld Geography & Topography

Total surface area: 435 million km², Water surface area: 464.6 million km², Land surface area: 400,000 km². Mar Isher is entirely covered by the Stinking Sea, a world-ocean with an average depth of 2,500m. A number of archipelagos and small islands, all of volcanic origin, dot the waters. The poles are covered by permanent ice-caps anchored to subsurface volcanic seamounts.

Native Lifeforms

Turek-Mar Isher System

Mar Isher, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

Sallam-Oshek Subsystem

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background / Dossier

Mar Isher (0626 Far Home) is a major producer of military equipment. Combat rations manufactured on the world are based on local marine life: they are highly nutritious and very cheap, but are widely agreed to have the worst flavour in the entire Fringe.

World Starport

Mar Isher has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level

Mar Isher possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Government

Mar Isher has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
