Makkus is a rich, agricultural, nonindustrial garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts and high-grade living conditions due to a bustling economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Ibaru Subsector of Zarushagar Sector in the Domain of Ilelish.
- This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
- This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
- It was once known as Dowson.
- It is an adopted homeworld of the Tentrassi.
- This world lies on the Gushemege Main.
- It is a member of the Strela Cluster.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
Makkus is a binary star system.
- Both are red main sequence stars.
- They are close companions.

System Data
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x2 secondary rocky worlds.
- x3 gas giants.
Mainworld Data
Makkus is tidally locked to close binary stars.
- It experiences libration - a regular wobble - as it orbits, causing the stars to move in the sky.
It has a circumbinary orbit, circling around both stars and receiving their combined energy output.
Mainworld Size (S)
Makkus is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)
Makkus has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- Temperatures within the twilight zone are pleasant.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)
Makkus has 45-55% of its surface covered by liquid water. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- The light side of the world is an arid, scorched desert.
- The dark side of the world is covered in an unstable crust of frost and fractured ice.
Mainworld Geography and Topography
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
History & Background (Dossier)
Makkus is inhabited by the Tentrassi, non-humanoid sophonts who arrived at the world in sublight generation ships during the Long Night. Their original homeworld remains unknown.
During the Ziru Sirka Makkus was slowly transformed through the use of Planetary Engineering, more commonly known as Terraforming, by the Vilani. Its liquid (non-frozen) hydrosphere was increased by moving vast amounts of ice from the dark side to the twilight zone, and over many centuries multiple species of flora and fauna were introduced and carefully nurtured. The formerly marginal planet became a stable, flourishing garden world, with conditions that are appealing to many kinds of sophonts. It remains as one of the more successful examples of large scale terraforming projects.
World Starport (St)
Makkus has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)
Makkus has a population of 6,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
- The population entirely consists of Tentrassi.
World Technology Level (T)
Makkus possesses a Technology Level of TL–12 or TL-C in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land, Water & Air: Personal G-Tubes and advanced gravcraft.
- Space: Advanced interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-3.
World Government (G)
Makkus has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
World Law (L)
Makkus has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility
Makkus, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estates of two members of the Imperial Nobility, who are charged with overseeing the world.
