Lyssana is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Aredian Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Irigo-Lyssana System

The companion is Irigo, a dim red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00006 Sols, a mass of 0.058 Sols, and a diameter of 73,700 km. (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (II) the Lyssana Main Belt, designated the mainworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV-I) a small gas giant, (IV-II) a dense icy planetoid belt, and (V) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(II) Lyssana Main Belt

(II) the Lyssana Main Belt orbits within the outer system and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 0.45 AU from the star and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 50 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 0.29 AU from the star and the outer edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of icy bodies, is considered to lie at approximately 0.61 AU. The main inhabited body is named Macey, with a mean orbital distance of 0.38 AU around Irigo and an orbital period of 355 days 6 hours. It has a long axis of 80 km, a density of 2.4 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.002 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrosphere. Mean surface temperature: -135°C.

Native lifeforms

Irigo-Lyssana System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Lyssana has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Lyssana possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government

Lyssana has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World military

The tall skinny belters of this system serving in the Mytas Colonial Occupation Forces are a subtle contrast to the natives of Mytas (world) who enjoy the benefit of a lithosphere.

World culture

Weapon restrictions are common sense due to the nature of life in the types of sealed habitats necessary in a system devoid of ecosystems. Belter clans emerged into a coalition of nations who agree to cooperate in limited ways on issues too critical to survival, to permit dissent. Rivalries for precious resources persist and conflicts do occur.

Female leaders tend to predominate in this culture. Males are not restricted in their access to higher offices, cultural bias just tends to prefer female leaders. They feel more secure and trustworthy, less prone to betrayal. Socialization reinforces these biases, girls are pulled aside from a young age to foster clear headed thinking, they are trained to be less impulsive and more compassionate, less selfish, and more prone to communicate. However, once a course of action is decided upon they are ruthlessly efficient.

Utilitarian garments worn for protection are commonplace in space habitats. Fashion is really a foreign concept, function and survival are all that matters. Accessories and adornment are seen as wasteful of resources, where resources; air, food and water a hard to obtain in the hard vacuum of space.
