Luken has both an unbreathably thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Laraa Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Luken, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Shamem Er.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

Luken is a member of the Sylean Main.

History and background[edit]

The entire healthy adult population works mining out the various minerals and Sac-quai, an underground edible root that forms the mainstay of the Luken diet. The adults work two weeks at the mine followed by a week of rest (of Festival as the locals refer to it).

The cities are occupied only by the elderly, the infirm, pregnant and nursing mothers, and youths under 16. This last factor has made Luken the juvenile crime capital of the quadrant and adults have been warned to avoid traveling at night beyond the Festival areas as bands of youth prey on lone Oo-di's, as adults are known.
