Lortox is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.
  • This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
  • It is a subject world of the Korsumug Empire located in the Siridor Subsector of Mavuzog Sector.
  • About 80% of the population is composed of baseline humans.
  • About 20% of the population is composed of Jaibok.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)

The Lortox system lies on the trailing side of Siridor Subsector.

System Data

A diagram indicating the positions of all of the major worlds and satellites in the system. Distances are noted in AU.

Resonant Worlds

The innermost four worlds, including the mainworld, have an orbital resonance of 9:6:4:3 with one another. For every three orbits the outermost of the four worlds completes, the third world comletes exactly four orbits, the mainworld completes exactly six orbits, and the inner world completes exactly nine orbits.

Jump Shadow

The Jump Shadow of the star lies at 0.514 AU. The mainworld orbits at 0.27 AU, approximately 0.25 AU / 37.4 million km within the safe jump distance.

  • "Arrive and Stop" assumes an inward journey: the ship exits jumpspace at 0.514 AU / 100 stellar diameters with broadly the same relative motion as the mainworld. It accelerates to a halfway point, then decelerates to orbit around the mainworld.
  • "Arrive at Full Speed" assumes an outward journey: the ship departs orbit around the mainworld and continuously accelerates out to 0.514 AU, initiating jump when it arrives at a safe distance without slowing down.

Mainworld Data

Lortox has been designated the mainworld.

Mainworld Size (S)

This world is a Meso World between 5,600km and 7,200km in diameter. The world has low gravity between 0.32G and 0.46G. The horizon will appear about 3.6km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)

This world has a pressure of 0.10 to 0.42 atmospheres. The very thin pressures require a respirator or Oxygen Mask this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Respirator Combination Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)

This world has 15-25% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. There may be a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.

World starport

Lortox has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Lortox possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government

Lortox is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
