Lia (Co 0537) is a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.

Description (Planetology)

Lia is known throughout the Core as ‘the world of planned progress’. A complex terraforming, colonisation and civilisation-development project has been under way for millennia. Formerly an uninhabited Vilani reserve world with a thick, high-pressure carbon dioxide atmosphere, it has gradually been transformed into a habitable, self-sufficient society with one of the highest populations in the sector.

History & Background (Dossier)

During the Rule of Man, this world was designated "51 Alpha" using the Roman numeral "LI" and the Greek letter "α". This designation was eventually corrupted to 'Lia'. The wealthy Corwin Corporation of Terra funded the first colony.

During the first decade of the Third Imperium, the noble Cararialta family sold their corporation and set out to found a new pocket empire. They selected Lia and its neighbours. Before long, this pocket empire was absorbed into the Imperium.

Lia has since intermittently and deliberately raised and dropped its Tech Level according to a perplexing and byzantine plan for progress.
