Leware is a low-population fluid world with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size.
- A fluid world has an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids.
- It is a member of The Last Line in the Farin Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- The Leware system is a part of the Vey Trace.
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture

System Data
Orchand-Leware System
The primary is Orchand, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 5.34 Sols, a mass of 1.46 Sols and a diameter of 2.115 million km. Orchand's inner system consists of (II) a dense rocky planetoid belt and (IV) a hot small gas giant – orbital positions (I) and (III) are empty. (V) Leware orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VI) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (VII) a spectacularly ringed large gas giant, (VIII) a large gas giant, (IX) a small ice giant, and (X) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. All of the worlds in the system retain satellites.
Harp Subsystem
The companion is Harp, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 1,800 AU from Orchand. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.063 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. It retains no planetary bodies.
Mainworld Data
(IV) Leware
(IV) Leware is designated the mainworld. It orbits Orchand at a mean distance of 1.74 AU (261 million km), it has an orbital period of 3 years 222 days and a rotation period of 27.3 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Leware has a diameter of 10,133 km, a density of 6.33 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.91 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Insidious, with a mean surface pressure of 35.5 bar and a composition of 93% carbon dioxide (CO2), 5% nitrogen (N2), 1% water vapor (H2O), and 1% argon (Ar), muriatic acid vapor (HCl), sulfur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and other trace gases. Approximately 27% of the surface is covered in shallow seas of superheated water, kept liquid by the immense atmospheric pressure which increases its boiling point to 243°C: average tidal ranges are around 0.6m. The waters contain many chemicals in solution. Mean surface temperature: 197°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the seas, sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.
Satellites:
Leware retains one natural satellite, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Chum:
- (IVa) Chum (UWP H300000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/250,000 km).
Mainworld Geography and Topography
Total surface area: 323 million km², Land surface area: 236 million km², Fluid surface area: 87 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Despite the extremely hostile conditions Leware has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find conditions that meet their biological needs. Their metabolic functions play little part in the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)
- A former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture.
World starport
Leware has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Leware possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Leware has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
