Description (Specifications)

The Armored Cruiser is a historical design produced in the Terran Confederation during the early 22nd century. These ships fled the Destruction of Terra at the hands of the Vilani Imperium in 2147AD, forming the fighting core of the Last Armada and carrying with them the last remnants of Terran culture and independence. The class were extremely sturdy and reliable and endured more than a century of spaceflight. They ultimately found and settled the Demon Cluster, the Distant Fringe. The vessel is constructed as a long-range design and has extended range capability.

1.	Tonnage	The Armored Cruiser is constructed using a 38,000 Ton hull built in a Wedge configuration. The hull is fully streamlined, giving good atmospheric performance that is further enhanced by its onboard gravitic systems. There are multiple airlocks located around the vessel. The cargo hold is accessed by large doors and has a loading ramp. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.
2.	Crew	x304 personnel (34 Officers, 270 Enlisted). x13 command, x76 engineering, x98 gunnery, x76 service, x38 security, x2 medical and x1 flight crew. Accommodations There are 152 Staterooms. All quarters are double occupancy. There are 150 Low Berths. These hold the Frozen Watch who share and rotate crew duties over the long voyage. The low berths are tended by the vessel's medical staff. It carries 800 GenPods and large embryo banks. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-2 drive, a Maneuver-2 drive, and a Power Plant-4, giving performance of Jump-2 and 2-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 1 and an emergency agility of 2. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for two consecutive Jump-2s and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. Ladders, gantries and platforms give access to the machinery. The jump drive utilizes a lanthanum hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/5fib computer: the vessel has a backup Model/5fib computer. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is fitted with backup commo and sensor systems. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package.
5.	Hardpoints	x380 hardpoints. The listed battery groupings are standard configurations for the class. Alternative battery groupings may be designated for specific missions.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for it is: x1 Type K spinal Particle Accelerator. x5 triple Beam Laser turrets, typically grouped into one battery of 5 linked turrets. x10 dual Plasma Gun turrets, each forming their own battery. x300 triple Missile turrets, typically grouped into thirty batteries of 10 linked turrets.
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, structurally reinforced, and built with secure bulkheads and compartments that give it a High Guard armor rating of 4. x100 triple Sandcaster turrets, typically grouped into one battery of 10 linked turrets. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems. x2 50-Ton bays, mounting Repulsors.
8.	Craft	Flight Section x1 60-Ton Survey Shuttle. The Shuttle is housed in a dedicated hanger: the hanger can be sealed and has a total volume of 78 Tons.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 16,720 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant that can refine all onboard fuel in a few hours: the plant is operated and maintained by the engineering crew. Droptanks Examples of the class are fitted with Droptanks capable of supporting an additional jump-2.

11.	Construction Time	185 weeks (43 months) as standard. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 22 Tons. The cargo hold can be sealed and has independent life support and environmental systems.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Last Armada class Armored Cruiser is a class of warships designed and built for the Expedition. This class of vessel is historical – no extant examples are known to exist. They were constructed under the aegis of the Expedition to escort the vessels of the Last Armada on their perilous voyage into the unknown. Because of the demands for greater range, requiring additional onboard fuel, the design were armored similarly to strike cruisers of the era rather than traditional heavy cruisers. The 2G acceleration and low agility were also necessary trade-offs.

The over-engineered, extra-thick hull plating added greater structural strength to the design, allowing it to survive the extremely long voyage through unexplored space. The hull armor primarily served as shielding for the precious cargo of life rather than to protect the ship from serious battle damage. The armored hull helped to limit long-term radiation exposure, shielding embryos from lethal dosages delivered by high speed, short wavelength particles.

• Destiny Bastion, the vessel on which Lieutenant Alisa Zelig, the author of the Zelig Journal, served. The vessel made it to Year One.
• Hope Triumphant, a Dissident Fleet vessel commanded by Keslo Rann, the founder of the mythical Rann's Worlds in Lucent Sector.
• Resolve Aspirant, a Last Armada vessel recorded as "lost" in the Zelig Journal. Its supporting tanker, the Versatility Grace, disappeared at the same time.
