Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Lank'gha Collective is a K'kree Client State which sits along the spinward edge of the Two Thousand Worlds. Once a popular trading cooperative begun by K'kree clients and early Human trade expeditions, the Collective was forced to incorporate and take its place as an interface state between the Two Thousand Worlds and the various threats to spinward. That mission and the early involvement of the relatively tolerant Hag'hg'k, a K'kree client race employed for efficient shipping in the rim-spinward parts of the Two Thousand Worlds, led to the Collective being a somewhat softer landing than the nearby Ka'ra Mandate for outsiders, but still quite insistent that unprepared progress into K'kree space was suicidal. This role, held for thousands of years, was disrupted by the rise of the Lords of Thunder immediately to coreward, and the Collective is currently focusing its efforts and mercantile power further to rimward.

The Lank'gha Collective is dominated by a combination of Humaniti and Hag'hg'k, with a scattering of Xaruah and somewhat bemused K'kree. There are also two sophont species native to the Collective in lesser roles. The massive aquatic Intril' function, somewhat ponderously, as the philosophic heart of the Collective, while the savage and ruthlessly xenophobic Luokr function mostly as unwitting security for the capital world.

The Navy of the Collective is small, relatively fierce if pushed for a TL13 force, and knows its territory. The small size of the Collective allows its Navy to be everywhere, making Customs operations with unsuspecting visitors an intimidating experience. Those who have experienced both border states say the Lank'gha Collective welcome wagon is friendlier than those of the Ka'ra Mandate, but also entirely frank about the mistakes visitors are about to make by proceeding further.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Lank'gha Collective is a very old K'kree Client State, formed after the end of the K'kree war with the Hivers. As the Xaruah to coreward were establishing their borders, the gap centered around the Collective trading posts became apparent, and the patrons of the Hag'hg'k employing the trading posts made clear that if the traders didn't step up to fill that gap, the K'kree would. Assistance from the K'kree, the Xaruah, and a few forward thinking Human merchants from spinward led to borders being decided, a Navy first loaned, then replaced as the Collective brought industry on line, and a full exploration of the worlds in their charge. Luokra was designated the capital of the Collective, but the power of the Collective Congress held there has waxed and waned many times since its founding, as the Noble Robber Barons* who rule and exploit each world in the Collective are variously jealous of their power and eager to wield the assembled might of the Collective.

The rise of the Lords of Thunder in the 900s was the first serious threat to the Collective in centuries. The Thunder peeled three systems away from the Collective before it realized the magnitude of the threat, but the patronage of the Two Thousand Worlds kept the remaining worlds of the Collective safe from the expansion plans of the Thunder.

(*No further reliable information yet available, but this researcher was assured that the title accorded the planetary representatives is only translated this way for Imperial visitors and is more serious and appropriate in the original Raxkiir.)
