Khi is a garden world with a near-ideal environment conducive to most forms of life. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. This world has the Imperial Research Station Alpha for the Sector. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Iiradu Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Khi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. During the Long Night this world was named Sharshu Liis.

History and background

There are two orbital stations conducting research into the effects of a fairly generic solar system (i.e. Khi) on sensor operation — for which they are collecting extensive volume of stellar data and the like. They are also studying the effects of high power sensor on space phenomenon and the flora and fauna of the planet Khi. The lab results are used for setting safety standards throughout the Imperium, and for verifying the safety of new sensor systems.

Two further stations are located on the planet, one surface installation associated with the sensor work. The second station is an underground base working on an archaeological and geological surveys. The exact details of the work of the latter station are restricted.

The surface station has service and supply domes, with low quality landing facilities for ships up to 400 dtons; anything larger has to dock at the larger of the orbital stations, which provides better quality service but can handle only two craft at a time.
