Khaguu has a population between 10,000 and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Bolivar Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Khaguu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Kaid.

Astrography and planetology

Khaguu is unusual in retaining a trace atmosphere despite its small size. This is produced by the release of tiny amounts of oxygen, nitrogen, and other gases from porous, chemically-laden rocks affected by minor but constant volcanic activity. The tiny planet's low gravity makes many of its inhabitants very light-limbed and, despite the use of mechanical and gravitic devices to produce higher gravity in certain areas, most inhabitants can not travel off world without a month or so of strenuous physical training.

History and background

Khaguu is poor in critical natural resources and is totally unable to support its three-quarters of a million inhabitants without substantial imports. Over the years the elite ruling council has encouraged free trade with minimal trade laws and low port taxes. The populace has gradually acquired a very friendly attitude to traders (and visitors) of all races.

Background Event: Tanzak's Plague

Ironically though, a trader brought in Tanzak's Plague in 1113, causing such a rapid loss of life the council was forced to impose a tight system of medical checks on all newcomers to Khaguu. Initial tests are performed as part of the port inspection. Visitors wishing to leave the port area are required to undergo a very extensive examination using high-tech medical kit. This often picks up current and potential ailments including those of which the patient is unaware. These tests are free, so some visitors take advantage of the medical scans.
