Katowice Conquest

Established on 2014 Katowice (A8A7868-B) in 280 when a group of ambitious naval commanders from the Old Worlds navy broke away with a few squadrons of ships. Due to internal political struggles between governmental factions within the Old Worlds, it was determined to be too costly to try and reintegrate the rebels. Basically unopposed against a series of more primitive, unaligned worlds the former Old Worlds fleet and its advanced marine divisions captured and now control several planets in the Old Worlds Subsector of the Crucis Margin Sector. Over the years the technology level for the Katowice Conquest dropped below that of their former home. A handful of relic TL–14 designs are all that remained. These are difficult to maintain with the TL–11 facilities available. The newer designs are simpler and less sophisticated, and as a result less capable. A standing force of 60,000 troops garrison the capital and a fleet of half a million tons stands watch from the pocket empire's single Naval Base. According to the historical archives the zone was established using an interesting mix of vessels. The major naval combatants are listed below dating from the establishment of the zone. By the current era the last relics had to be decommissioned so that the balance of the current naval forces are military scouts and merchants pressed into support and logistical roles.

Biskra Class

(4) surviving Regimental Assault Cruisers

Pressed into service as a capital ship of the line by its desperate rebel users, this ship was designed to deliver a small marine regimental combat team with three small battalions to a world's surface. It was intended to be well screened and protected by heavier fleet elements. When the AssaultRon defected they were pressed into several roles for which they were not intended. They have the most advanced, heaviest spinal mounted meson guns in the Katowice navy.

Rambler Class

(6) surviving Strike Cruisers

The Old World admiralty could never agree on a role for this class. Some envisioned a commerce raider striking terror far behind enemy lines, some saw a light missile cruiser for planetary bombardment along side troop transports. The lovingly preserved ancient warships have seen numerous actions over their long careers. The Katowice admire its long jump range although it is often forced to escort and protect slower vessels.

(11) surviving Frigates

This light escort vessel tries to strike a balance between speed and range. The only armored relic ship in the Katowice navy it is fast and agile only when compared to its larger stable mates. The weapon load is no threat to ship's of the line and is intended for smaller prey.

Fulcrum Class

(2) new Battle Cruisers

These Battle Cruisers were among the first ships the Katowice built for themselves with their own TL–11 shipyards. Designed to compensate for its technological limitations they are heavily armored yet carry no shielding. Vulnerable to meson attack and lacking jump range it can still intimidate the locals. They have yet to be seriously challenged by more advanced designs. It features 1,800tons of extra fuel to buffer fuel loss damage typical from surface strikes. This measure was intended to preserve its ability to flee encounters. In practice it acts as an impromptu tanker for swarms of close escorts and couriers it travels with in fleet taskforce operations.

Sargon Class

(21) new Close Escorts

These Close Escorts handle many routine patrol and picket duties along the frontier of the Katowice political entity. Built and designed locally at the TL–11 shipyards, the hope was that their defenses would allow them to survive long enough to escape and alert central command. They handle fairly well and can shrug off hits from small pirates. They are capable of running down smugglers or typical commercial traffic. However, long manning the blockades is limited by the lack of stores and the inability to provide its own refined fuel.

The Dominion class Troop Transport is an TL–11 Naval Auxiliary as a Troop Transport and fire support vessel.

Description (Specifications)

They carry a pair of light marine battalions. They are lightly armed and armored to help ensure they can survive long enough to deliver and eventually retrieve their ground forces. They have been known to actually land on planetary surfaces to recover their brood. The jump troops assault with their capsules and are supported by few companies of military grav vehicles.

History & Background (Dossier)

These locally produced ships are packed with marines to maintain strategic mobility to the Katowice military establishment.

Starships are designed with the Classic Traveller format, using High Guard Shipyard v1.13 written by Andrea Vallance.

The Ranger class Escort Carrier is a very light warship.

Description (Specifications)

Designed to carry a pair of fighter squadrons this pocket carrier is used as a tiny flag ship for small escort flotillas. Deceptively quick and agile, the dispersed hulls tend to be fragile. It hides behind a single heavy sand caster battery and tends to slink off when pursued. These fighters squadrons are most effective providing CAS to Katowice ground forces. The heavy fighters are built to take punishment and excel at long range tank busting. The fighters are dual-environment and streamlined for effective atmospheric work.
