Kaatha is an icy, low-population vacuum world, with a population less than 10,000 sophonts in population size, warranting hazardous environment precautions.

  • Warning: humans are not welcome within the Sath Alliance. Those few humans that venture into its territory are generally met with a hostile reception and are closely monitored at all times.

System data

The primary is Sii'akh, a cool red dwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.273 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols and a diameter of 109,000 km. It has an L-type Brown Dwarf companion, Hiisih, which orbits at (IV) 0.96 AU. Its outer system consists of (I, II) two vacuum worldlets. Orbital postions (III) through (VI) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion. (VII) a spectacularly large ringed gas giant, (VIII) a small gas giant: (VIIIa) Kaatha is its second moon and is designated the mainworld, (IX) a bigworld, (X) an ice giant, and (XI) an iceworld form the outer part of the outer zone. Many of the worlds in the system retain satellites.

The companion is (IV) Hiisih, an L-type Brown Dwarf orbiting Sii'akh at approximately 0.96 AU (143.6 million km). It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.067 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. (I) a bigworld and (II) a worldlet form its outer zone. Neither world retains satellites.

(VIII) Aka'thah

(VIII) Aka'thah is a small gas giant that orbits the barycenter of Sii'akh and Hiisih at a mean distance of 10.4 AU and has an orbital period of 7600 years. It has a diameter of 48,000km and is a heavily banded deep blue colour. It retains a family of four major satellites of which the third, (VIIIc) Kaatha, is designated the mainworld. Huge storms, sometimes covering as much as a quarter of the surface of the gigantic planet, occasionally rise from deep within the interior and mix the atmospheric bands into swirls.

History & Background (Dossier)

This system is controlled by the Ka'sa Faction of the Sath Alliance.

World starport

Kaatha has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Kaatha possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Kaatha is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
