General Description[edit]

The Rapacious class is a combat vessel with 1-G and J-3 performance. Its only armament is a powerful bay-mounted particle accelerator. It has a heavily armored hull, offering good protection. The hull has basic streamlining, allowing limited atmospheric operations and enabling it to perform surface landings.

The hull is partially streamlined and has moderate atmospheric capability: its atmospheric handling characteristics are improved by its onboard gravitic systems. Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. There are x3 personnel airlocks. The vessel has sturdy retractable legs, allowing surface landings.

The command crew consists of the Captain, the Executive Officer, two electronics officers (commo and sensor ops), two pilot/navigators, and a medical officer. Each crew section has a senior officer. Accommodations There are 19 Staterooms. Staterooms are configured to what the Jaibok consider to be comfort. All Staterooms are given over to the crew. 6 are single occupancy and are set aside for selected command personnel and the marine officer: the remaining 13 are double occupancy. Accessible areas of the hull are fitted with grav plates and inertial compensators and have full life support and environmental systems. There are internal monitoring and security systems throughout the vessel. Individual sections of the hull can be sealed off. There are multiple emergency lockers.
3.	Performance	The vessel mounts a Jump-3 drive, a Maneuver-1 drive, and a fusion Power Plant-7, giving performance of Jump-3 and 1-G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 0 and an emergency agility of 1. The internal fuel tankage is sufficient for One Jump-3 and gives the power plant 4 weeks duration. The engineering section has a main control room. The jump drive utilizes a hull grid. The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
4.	Electronics	Adjacent to the bridge is a Model/4 fib computer. A backup Model/4 fib is installed in engineering. There are multiple workstations and control points throughout the vessel. The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, a sophisticated sensor array, and has an avionics suite. It is equipped with a sophisticated ECM package and Jamming Equipment. It has a transponder unit that can be deactivated on command.
5.	Hardpoints	x10 hardpoints. The listed weapons systems are typical for the class.
6.	Armament	The normal weapons fit-out for a Rapacious class is: x1 100-ton Bay. The Bay mounts a heavy Particle Accelerator.
7.	Defenses	The hull is plated, braced and structurally reinforced. It has an armor rating of 5. The vessel is not fitted with screens or other passive defensive systems.
8.	Craft	Flight Section: x1 10-dTon KU1a Fetch class Launch. The subcraft is housed in a dedicated hanger: the hanger can be sealed and has a total volume of 13 dTons.
9.	Fuel Treatment	The vessel has internal fuel tankage of 370 Tons. The hull is fitted with fuel scoops. The vessel is equipped with a fuel purification plant, capable of refining all onboard fuel in a few hours.
10.	Cost	The basic cost of the vessel is MCr1,159.446 Architects Fee: MCr11.60 If multiple examples of the design are ordered all vessels in the production run qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the price per unit to MCr927.557 The price does not include the cost of the launch: x1 Fetch class Launch costs MCr6.16 (discounts apply on bulk orders, reducing the cost to MCr4.928). With its subcraft, a discounted Rapacious class costs MCr932.485
11.	Construction Time	118 weeks as standard, 95 weeks in bulk. Build times can be reduced by mass production and the efficiencies such processes generate, by increased financing, and by allotting additional yard resources and facilities to the construction contract.
12.	Comments	Standard cargo capacity amounts to 3 dTons. The hold has independent life support and environmental systems. It can be sealed and isolated.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Rapacious class Fleet Escort is an ubiquitous type of warship used by the Korsumug Empire, typically serving as a major component escorting large merchant vessels. They are occasionally employed in garrison roles or used for bombardment. Early low-jump examples of the class served on the Korsumug Main, where their powerful particle accelerator gained them a reputation as hard hitters, even if they were somewhat slow and clumsy.

The type was designed by the Jansa, a minor race closely allied with the Jaibok.

A number of redesigns with more powerful drives were fielded as the Korsumug Empire began to venture to worlds further from the Main. This ultimately resulted in the KE10c variant, equipped with a Jump-3 drive. Sacrifices had to be made in the original design to accommodate the increased fuel load, principally achieved by reducing the amount of hull armor.

Examples of the Rapacious class can be encountered throughout Mavuzog Sector and Theta Borealis Sector.

Many of the vessels are built at the naval shipyards on occupied Felspar.

Class Naming Practice/s & Peculiarities[edit]

Vessel Peculiarities:
The vessel is slow but it has a long range and is capable of independent operations. It has no inherent defenses other than its electronic countermeasures and its armored skin, and relies on escorting vessels to provide point defense. The accommodations are notoriously cramped.

Rapacious class vessels perform escort, garrison, and bombardment roles.
Their large power plants give them a distinctive signature, making them easy to identify with sensors.

Physiologically, neither Jaibok nor Jansa cope well with low berths and they are not routinely fitted to Korsumug vessels.

Earlier variants of the class were fitted with low berths in order to transport prisoners, a feature that has been removed as internal space issues have become more pressing.

Class Naming Practice/s:
Vessels of the Korsumug Empire are given alphanumeric designations and callsigns by other interstellar states. KE refers to Korsumug Empire (a designation applied to all Korsumug combat units), 10 is a multiple of hundreds of tons of displacement and also indicates at a glance the number of weapons mounts, and 'c' refers to the version of the vessel, relating to its construction tech level and bracketing its maximum jump potential. Type codes will often repeat: 'Rapacious' is an easy to remember name to identify the specific type of vessel.

Individual vessels are generally named by their crews.
