K'shek is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial, moderate population world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

• It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
• Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
• It is a member of the Sath Alliance in the Sath Subsector of Far Home Sector.

• Warning: Humans are not welcome within the Sath Alliance. Those few humans that venture into its territory are generally met with a hostile reception and are closely monitored at all times.

System Data

Kh'isaa System

The primary is Kh'isaa, a hot blue-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 75.2 Sols, a mass of 3.22 Sols, and a diameter of 4.063 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a dense stony planetoid belt, and (II) a vacuum worldlet. Orbital positions (III) through (VI) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (VII) K'shek orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VIII) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (IX) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (X) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (XI) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Is'shka Subsystem

The companion is Is'shka, a dim red subdwarf star that orbits Kh'isaa at a mean distance of 0.89 AU (orbital position (IV), 133 million km) and has an orbital period of 171 days. It has a luminosity of 0.00152 Sols, a mass of 0.093 Sols, and a diameter of 127,000 km. It retains (I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, and (II) a vacuum worldlet. The worldlet retains a satellite. The Is'shka subsystem lies entirely within Kh'isaa's inner system.

Ish Subsystem

The far companion is Ish, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 1700 AU from Kh'isaa. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.062 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. (I) a dense icy planetoid belt, and (II) a trace atmosphere worldlet form the outer system. The worldlet retains a satellite.

Mainworld Data

(VII) K'shek

(VII) K'shek is designated the mainworld. It orbits Kh'isaa at a mean distance of 9.72 AU (1.45 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 16 years 325 days and a rotation period of 26.5 hours. The axial tilt is 18 degrees. K'shek has a diameter of 11,365 km, a density of 5.24 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.85 G. The world is geologically very active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.79 bar and a composition of 72% nitrogen, 27% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 67% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 29°C. The atmosphere is active and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites

World retains two natural satellites, a cratered vacuum worldlet named Chaa and a trace atmosphere ice capped worldlet named Ik'sch:

(VIIb) Ik'sch (UWP Y311000-0, orbiting at 45 Diameters/510,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 406 million km², Water surface area: 272 million km², Land surface area: 134 million km².

• Breathing K'shek's atmosphere without suitable filtration equipment will cause oxygen narcosis and oxygen toxicity. Symptoms include sensations of euphoria and nausea, seizures, bouts of physical rigidity followed by convulsions and unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, damage to the lungs and the heart, and death.

Native Lifeforms

K'shek has extensive, abundant native life, with organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

This system is controlled by the Shikh'aa Faction of the Sath Alliance.

World starport

K'shek has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

K'shek possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
