Joyeuse has an ideal environment for producing agricultural goods and an balanced population between 10 and 100 million. This world designated as an Amber Zone. Caution is advised since the world has an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that are not well understood and might be a danger to a visitor. It is a member of Sword Worlds Confederation in the Sword Worlds Subsector of Spinward Marches Sector and in the Sword Worlds. This world supports a Sword Worlds Military Base and the system supports a Sword Worlds Naval Base.

Astrography & Planetology

Joyeuse is a member of the Spinward Main.

Joyeuse contains temperate plains and rolling hills. The lifestyle of the majority of the inhabitants has changed little for centuries. Dry conditions and the Broedsaed Mange (a wide variety of fungal plagues) make it very difficult for Joyeuse to grow enough food to support even a small population. This has prevented Joyeuse from becoming more than a frontier world.

Joyeuse has two stars, the primary Karl and its companion, Gallas. Joyeuse has a 3:2 resonance orbit with its close primary at a distance of 0.06 AU. Joyeuse's year is a scant 12 days long, which in combination with the planet's slow rotation means that it goes through a very hot "daysummer" of constant sun and a freezing "nightwinter" of constant darkness.

Thoslinn, the next planet out from Joyeuse, is the site for the largest and most heavily fortified military base and training facility in the Confederation.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

The capital city of Virodby is located on the southern edge of the small continent of Arvildsvaten. Joyeuse's starport, Svelund, is located on an island northwest of Virodby.

History & Background (Dossier)

There was a civil war that started in 1098 and continued for a number of years.

Joyeuse contributed a considerable fleet to the 5th Frontier War[2]. The Joyeuse Fleet pushed out of Joyeuse toward Vilis (Spinward Marches 1119), but was never able to make any progress against the Imperial 23rd Fleet. It was pushed back and reduced to holding the Sword Worlds border after 180-1109.[3]

Joyeuse was, in medieval legend, the sword wielded by Charlemagne as his personal weapon. The name means "joyous".
