Jesel is a pre-agricultural, pre-Industrial, moderate population world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population size.

  • It requires significant imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
  • It is a member of The Last Line in the Farin Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
  • This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.

System Data

Kimmesey-Jesel System

The primary is Kimmesey, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 2.126 Sols, a mass of 1.144 Sols and a diameter of 1.639 million km. The inner system consists of (II) a vacuum inner world, and (III) an exotic atmosphere radworld – orbital position (I) is empty. (IV) Janipor, a large gas giant, orbits within the habitable zone: (IVc) Jesel is its third satellite and is designated the mainworld. (V) a large gas giant, (VII) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (VIII) a small gas giant, (IX) a small ice giant, (X-I) a ringed large gas giant, and (X-II) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system – orbital position (VI) is empty. Many of the worlds in the system retain satellites.

(IV) Janipor

(IV) Janipor is a large gas giant that orbits Kimmesey at a mean distance of 1.1 AU and has an orbital period of 1 year 29.5 days. It has a diameter of 86,000km and is a faintly banded tan-brown colour. It retains a family of four major satellites of which the third, (IVc) Jesel, is designated the mainworld. Huge aurorae play across the huge world's northern and southern poles.

Mainworld Data

(IVc) Jesel

(IVc) Jesel is the third of the four major moons of Janipor and is designated the mainworld. Jesel orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 35 diameters (3.01 million km), with an orbital period of 54 days 18 hours: it is tidally locked to Janipor. The axial tilt is 6 degrees relative to Janipor. It has a diameter 8,454 km, a density of 5.59 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.67 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Janipor cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.89 bar and a composition of 84% nitrogen (N2), 15% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapor (H2O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 83% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.8m. Mean surface temperature: 8°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems, driven by the star and the oceans, sweep across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 225 million km², Water surface area: 189 million km², Land surface area: 36 million km².

Native lifeforms

Jesel, the mainworld, has extensive native life, although almost all lifeforms are aquatic. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. The most sophisticated land-dwelling organisms are primitive photosynthetic slimes and blue-green algae.

History & Background (Dossier)

Last Line Logo.gif

Jesel is a former member of the Corolian Jurisdicture.

  • Jesel is the de facto capital of the Last Line.

World starport

Jesel has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Local Conditions

  • Status: war footing (government modifier x1.5).
  • Construction Restrictions:
    • Maximum Jump: Jump-2
    • Maximum Hull Size: 100,000 dTons
  • Naval Support Capacity: 1,350,000 dTons

Facilities

Port facilities within the system include:

World technology level

Jesel possesses a Technology Level of TL–11 or TL-B in Hexadecimal Notation.
