Jerune is a low-population oceanic water world with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts.

  • It is covered with very deep oceans with less than 1% of its land above sea level.
  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 1% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Xelan Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Skyr-Jerune System

The primary is Skyr, an ordinary yellow-white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 2.584 Sols, a mass of 1.196 Sols, and a diameter of 1.742 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum inner world, (II) a vacuum worldlet, (III) an exotic atmosphere radworld, and (IV) Jerune, designated the mainworld. (V) a standard atmosphere radworld orbits within the habitable zone. (VI) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VII) a dense icy planetoid belt, (VIII) a ringed large gas giant, (IX) a large gas giant, and (X) a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(IV) Jerune

(IV) Jerune is designated the mainworld. It orbits Skyr at a mean distance of 1.12 AU (167.6 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 395 days 21 hours and a rotation period of 25.5 hours. The axial tilt is 16 degrees. Jerune has a diameter of 15,824 km, a density of 4.79 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.08 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.99 bar and a composition of 71% nitrogen (N2), 28% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high levels of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 99.7% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.9m. Mean surface temperature: 24°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans surge across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellite

Jerune retains a single natural satellite, an ice-capped vacuum worldlet named Doloran:

(IVa) Doloran (UWP H211000-0, orbiting at 8 Diameters/125,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 787 million km², Water surface area: 785 million km², Land surface area: 2 million km².

  • The taint is caused by the high levels of atmospheric oxygen. Breathing the atmosphere without suitable filtration equipment will cause oxygen narcosis and oxygen toxicity. Symptoms include sensations of euphoria and nausea, seizures, bouts of physical rigidity followed by convulsions and unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, damage to the lungs and the heart, and death.

Native Lifeforms

Skyr-Jerune System

Jerune, the mainworld, lying within the H– region of the inner system, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The radworld lying in orbital position (V) (within the habitable zone) has primitive native life, consisting of complex extremophile radiation-tolerant organisms that can be found in every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (VI) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting almost entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Jerune has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Jerune possesses a Technology Level of TL–5.

World government

Jerune is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to write the policies voted on. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by voting population.
