(IIIc) Jejant is the third of the four major moons of Lostallo, orbitting its parent world at a mean distance of 2.35 million km, with an orbital period of 75 days 18 hours and a rotation period of 23.25 hours. It is designated as the [[mainworld]]. It has a diameter of 7813 km, a density of 5.32 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.59 G. It retains an atmosphere rated as standard, tainted, with a surface pressure of 0.85 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen, 11% oxygen, and 1% argon, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the low percentage of oxygen and by relatively high levels of background radiation. Around 9% of the surface is covered in lakes and seas of heavily saline liquid water. Tidal stresses caused by the gravitational pull of Lostallo cause occasional seismic activity. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year. Jejant is generally cold and dry, with temperatures averaging around 6ºC. Equatorial temperatures are marginally higher whilst the poles are substantially colder.

(IIIc) Jejant is the third of the four major moons of (III) Lostallo and is designated the [[mainworld]]. Jejant orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 45 diameters (2.35 million km), with an orbital period of 75 days 18 hours: it is [[tidally locked]] to Lostallo. It has an axial tilt of 1 degree. It has a diameter of 7,813 km, a density of 5.32 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.59 G. Tidal stresses caused by the gravitational pull of Lostallo cause occasional seismic activity. It retains an atmosphere rated as Standard, Tainted, with a surface pressure of 0.85 bar and a composition of 84% nitrogen, 11% oxygen, 4% carbon dioxide and 1% argon, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the low percentage of oxygen and by relatively high levels of background radiation. Around 9% of the surface is covered in lakes and seas of heavily saline liquid water: average tidal ranges are around 0.75m. Mean surface temperature: 6°C. The atmosphere is relatively turbulent and enormous storms carrying large amounts of dust roll across the world. The climate is static.

The Sicklespine Range dominates much of the equator: the peak of Mount Desolation, its highest point, marks the world's prime meridian. The Sicklespines give way to the Nilo Highlands and the parched Borius Dust Plains in the northern hemisphere. A single sea called the Longwater lies along the southern edge of the Sicklespines. It is surrounded by a large number of brackish lakes that eventually become the Inferus Dust Plains in the southern hemisphere. Both the northern and southern polar regions are arid and intensely cold. The atmosphere is relatively turbulent and enormous storms carrying large amounts of dust roll across the world.

Jejant is a nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Abidal Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data[edit]

Juno-Jejant System[edit]

The primary is Juno, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.42 Sols, a mass of 0.825 Sols and a diameter of 1.263 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a very thin atmosphere inner world, and (II) a thin atmosphere hospitable world. (III) Lostallo, a small gas giant, orbits within the habitable zone: (IIIc) Jejant is its largest satellite and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (V) a trace atmosphere iceworld, (VI) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (VII) a ringed large gas giant, (VIII) a large gas giant, (IX) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (X) the Inner Sparkles, a dense icy planetoid belt, and (XI) the Outer Sparkles, a dense icy planetoid belt, form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(III) Lostallo[edit]

(III) Lostallo is a small gas giant that orbits Juno at a mean distance of 0.7 AU (104.7 million km) and has an orbital period of 1 year 29.5 days. It has a diameter of 52,000km and is a heavily banded blue-green colour. It retains a family of four major satellites of which the third, (IIIc) Jejant, is designated the mainworld. Huge storms, sometimes covering as much as a fifth of the surface of the planet, occasionally rise from deep within the interior and mix the atmospheric bands into swirls.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(IIIc) Jejant[edit]

(IIIc) Jejant is the third of the four major moons of (III) Lostallo and is designated the mainworld. Jejant orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 45 diameters (2.35 million km), with an orbital period of 75 days 18 hours: it is tidally locked to Lostallo.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 192 million km², Land surface area: 175 million km², Water surface area: 17 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Jejant has extensive native life, though no lifeform (or at least no lifeform discovered so far) is larger than a multicellular micro-organism. The Longwater is thick with primeval ooze and huge colonies, resembling mounds of green slime, can be found anywhere on the surface where water is accessible. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Rumours persist of networks of caverns deep in the outback, filled with bizarre ecosystems and caches of mineral riches.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Jejant (2611 Halcyon), the largest moon of the system's inner gas giant, is largely arid, dust-scoured outback.

World Starport[edit]

Jejant has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Technology Level[edit]

Jejant possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Jejant is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Military[edit]

A least one squadron of Firebolt class Light Fighters has been spotted in operation within this system. This self defense force has been mobilized to dissuade pirates and the like. They have a glorious scarlet and gold color scheme and look spectacular when flying in tight formations on patrol.

World Economy[edit]

  • Resources: A (Abundant)
  • Labor: 5 (Hundreds of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 1 (Extremely limited)
  • Efficiency: +3 (Improved )

Trade Data[edit]

Jejant lies on the Scybrian Run Star Lane, an important commercial axis crossing the Border Rifts. It largely subsists on mining.

World Demographics[edit]

Population: 5,103,000

  • Humaniti (Human races)
    • Solomani (Major Race): 5.05 million (98.9% of the population), descended from immigrants from all across the Distant Fringe. They refer to themselves as Terrans.
  • Native Non-Human Races:
    • Hoppers: 31,000 (0.6% of the population), concentrated within hives in human communities.
    • Temelik: 22,000 (0.5% of the population), widely dispersed across Alcione.

World Culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 7 (Discordant)
  • Acceptance: 6 (Aloof)
  • Strangeness: 7
  • Symbols: 8

Urbanization[edit]

The majority of the population inhabits a single sprawling equatorial city called Falldon, lying on the northern shores of the Longwater. It is surrounded by small mining communities linked by an efficient monorail network.
