Jaradin is a non-agricultural, preindustrial, and moderate population icy world with over a hundred million, but not yet at a billion sophonts in population.

  • Its surface is ice-capped with little or no atmosphere and nearly all of its water frozen.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It is a world working toward being an industrial powerhouse but lacks an adequate workforce to do so. It must now import many of its manufactured and high tech goods.
  • This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
  • This world is also the overall capital of an interstellar government with the massive extra trade and prestige associated with that role.
  • This is a "high technology" world with technology achievements at, near, or over technology standards for Charted Space.
  • It is a member of the Unity of Sed in the Cradle Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data

Memmeset-Jaradin System

The primary is Memmeset, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I) Botcha, a ringed large gas giant: (IIIc) Jaradin is its outer moon and is designated the mainworld, (II) a dense icy planetoid belt, (III) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (V) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Vorgon Subsystem

The companion is Vorgon, a dim red main sequence star lying some 4,740AU from Memmeset. It has a luminosity of 0.0025 Sols, a mass of 0.244 Sols, and a diameter of 334,000 km. (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (II) a vacuum iceworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV) a vacuum iceworld, and (V) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(I) Botcha

(I) Botcha is a ringed large gas giant that orbits Memmeset at a mean distance of 0.21 AU (31.4 million km), within the outer system, and has an orbital period of 56 days 0 hours. It has a diameter of 116,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 90% hydrogen (H2), 10% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a heavily banded brown-tan color with spectacular polar aurora. It retains a family of four major satellites.

Satellites

Botcha retains a broad ring system and a family of four major satellites:

(Ir) Ring System (UWP YR00000-0, extending to 3 Diameters/350,000 km)
(Ia) Vas (UWP H100000-0, orbiting at 7 Diameters/810,000 km)
(Ib) Jaradin (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 12 Diameters/1.39 million km)
(Ic) Cumbo (UWP F3A0467-B, orbiting at 15 Diameters/1.74 million km)
(Id) Probos (UWP HS00000-0, orbiting at 20 Diameters/2.32 million km)

Mainworld Data

(Ib) Jaradin

(Ib) Jaradin is the second of the four major moons of (I) Botcha and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 12 Diameters (1.39 million km) and has an orbital period of 38 days 18.5 hours: it is tidally locked to Botcha. The axial tilt is 4 degrees relative to Botcha. Jejant has a diameter 4,658 km, a density of 4.33 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.29 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Botcha cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Trace, with a mean surface pressure of 0.07 bar and a composition of 79% carbon dioxide (CO2), 19% nitrogen (N2), 1% argon (Ar), and 1% water vapor (H2O), abiotic oxygen (O2), ozone (O3), xenon (Xe), neon (Ne), and other trace gases. Approximately 11% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -43°C. The climate is rated as Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is ethereal and weak weather systems driven by the star ghost across the globe.

History & Background (Dossier)

World Starport (Sp)

Jaradin has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

  • War footing (fanaticism modifier x3.5).
