Jack Personal Armor (Cr50; TL–1) is a natural or synthetic leather jacket or body suit covering the torso and upper arms and legs. [1]

Jack is somewhat better than ordinary clothing or bare skin when defending against blades; it is worthless against guns. [1]

- Jack armour: Effective against blade weapons (sword and dagger), jack is a leather covering worn over the torso, arms, and legs. Although jack is ineffective against firearms and energy weapons, it is useful on high law level worlds which permit only blade weapons. It is light, inexpensive, and easy to purchase on nearly any world. [2]
- The armor provides Class-2 protection against Melee Weapons. [3]
History & Background (Dossier)
As a Proto-Sophont transitions from TL–0 to full sophonce and the full use of tools in the TL:1-3 epoch, leather and hide working are discovered and used to create the first Personal Armors. Higher tech jack armors, sometimes called Leather Armor, often use various leather hardening processes to increase resistance against blades and other melee weapons. [4]
