Jacent is a nonindustrial, rich, agricultural world with improving living conditions due to a bustling agro-economy.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy is bustling and an increase in living conditions is expected in the near future.
  • This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions make it dangerous to visitors.
  • It is a part of the Hell Worlds in the Sarudis Subsector of Far Home Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
  • This world-system hosts a Military Base, usually associated with military ground forces, which may be located on or off-world.
  • This world is controlled by the Sath Alliance

System Data[edit]

Garsh-Jacent System[edit]

The primary is Garsh, a hot yellow subgiant star. It has a luminosity of 60 Sols, a mass of 1.9 Sols, and a diameter of 3.645 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere inner world, (III) a vacuum inner world, (IV) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (V) a dense atmosphere hospitable water world. (VI) Jacent orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VIII) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (IX) a ringed large gas giant, (X) a small gas giant, and (XI) a sparse stony planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(VI) Jacent[edit]

(VI) Jacent is designated the mainworld. It orbits Garsh at a mean distance of 2.66 AU (397.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 3 years 54 days and a rotation period of 19.5 hours. The axial tilt is 25 degrees. Jacent has a diameter of 7,077 km, a density of 5.83 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.59 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, with a mean surface pressure of 1.21 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 53% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 37°C. The climate is rated as Hot and experiences minor seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.

Satellite[edit]

Jacent retains a single natural satellite, a cratered ice-capped trace atmosphere worldlet named Gerom:

(VIa) Gerom (UWP G312215-A, orbiting at 15 Diameters/105,000 km)

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 157 million km², Water surface area: 83 million km², Land surface area: 74 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Garsh-Jacent System[edit]

The tropical hospitable water world lying in orbital position (V) (within the H– region of the inner system) has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Jacent has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Flora is abundant and foliage is typically green: their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. Most higher forms of fauna follow a bilateral body pattern with a typical structure of HS-TB-LN-LL-T, supported by fluid-filled sacs and with ichor internal fluids. Most animals have vision that falls within the RGB spectrum and hearing broadly similar to that of humans. Most species native to Jacent contain substances harmful to humans and should not be consumed. At best, they provide no nutritional value. At worst they are extremely toxic.

The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (VII) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Jacent is a world that has seen periodic episodes of settlement and depopulation over the course of more than three millennia.

World starport[edit]

Jacent has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World technology level[edit]

Jacent possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government[edit]

Jacent has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

Jacent has been occupied by the Ka'sa Faction of the Sath Alliance. The former government, a Civil Service Bureaucracy, has been removed from power and all of its offices of state have been dissolved.

The human resistance are called the Jacentis and are headed by the Lumin, a council drawn from among surviving members of Jacent's former government.

World military[edit]

The Ka'sa have constructed a major military and naval base at Jacent.

The Jacent Resistance Forces may receive covert aid from off-planet agencies, who cannot watch blatant Sath aggression go unchecked.

  • Local militias have constructed military vehicles of their own.

World economy[edit]

The Descent Star Lane terminates at Jacent.

Much of the agricultural economy of Jacent is based the production of lumber. The local trees (and most other forms of native flora) produce toxic compounds that make their wood resistant to pests and rot, particularly when used in offworld projects. Plantations of trees centered on family farms and tended and harvested by automated systems are common within human areas. Though Jacent is self-sufficient in terms of food production, almost all food is grown in hydroponic facilities and is known for its blandness.

Trade data[edit]

WARNING:
As of 5596AD–present Jacent is under the control of the Sath Alliance and is considered to be a WAR ZONE. The Ka'sa Sath have declared the system to be under their direct jurisdiction and OFF-LIMITS to all human vessels. The Ka'sa occupation forces actively enforce the ban through naval patrols. Any travel within the system is considered an EXTREME RISK and in violation of any existing ship insurance policies. Any unauthorised surface landings on any body within the system are prohibited.
  • Prepared lumber is almost always available as a commodity on Jacent.
  • Luxury products of all kinds, including foodstuffs, are in demand.

World demographics[edit]

Population: 8,000,000

  • Approximately 7,300,000 humans (91.25% of the population), largely descended from settlers originating in the Firstworlds region
  • Approximately 650,000 Sath (8.12% of the population), descended from refugees displaced from the Sha'a Cluster during the Sath Diaspora
  • Approximately 50,000 Hoppers (0.62% of the population), small settlements within most large human communities
  • Approximately 5,000 Temelik (0.01% of the population), widely dispersed across the world

World culture[edit]

  • Homogeneity: 7 (Discordant)
  • Acceptance: 9 (Friendly)
  • Strangeness: 5
  • Symbols: C

Rumours persist of a group of "Ghost People" that exist in the deep outback of the world, who shun all contact with outsiders. Some speculate that they may be the descendants of the original human settlers who managed to escape the forcible depopulation of Jacent by the Second Confederation in 2646AD, or that they may be the descendants of people trapped on the world by the Voyagers during the Dark Age. Most likely, though, is that they are a tall tale. No reliable evidence of their existence has ever been produced.

Historical data[edit]

The site of an early human settlement, in place since ca 2350AD. Its main port was an orbital facility constructed as a private venture and became operational in 2410AD. The Jacent Incident took place in the system in 2468AD. The system was forcibly depopulated in 2646AD, during the Second Confederation.

The Confederation navy continued to maintain a presence in the Jacent system: it utilised the orbital facilities as a base for a task force charged with preventing human ships from leaving the Confederation. Interstellar traffic was known to pass by the system heading towards the worlds of the Pador-Aredian Cluster. During this time, the only permanent residents in the system consisted of the naval staff and their families aboard the station.

The task force clashed with a Sath armored reconnisance force in 2657AD, comprehensively defeating it in what became known as the Battle of Jacent. Confederation naval forces were finally withdrawn in 2701AD and the orbital port was abandoned, eventually burning up in the atmosphere sometime around 2850AD.

Human refugees fleeing the increasingly harsh Second Confederation found sanctuary in the system sometime around 3300AD. Sath scouting vessels passed through the system's outer fringe around 3400AD as they performed covert surveys of the human worlds. The population remained sparse during the time of the Third Confederation and the world became barren during the Dark Age and the depredations of the Voyagers.

The third (and to date permanent) wave of settlement came during the so-called Scavenger Season, when human settlers seeking new opportunities began a new settlement on the world. This is known to have been in place by 4750AD and has thrived since that time, with Jacent becoming a wealthy agricultural world.

During the Sath Diaspora of the mid-55th century large numbers of Sath displaced from the Sha'a Cluster settled regions of the world not claimed by humans. Their temporary camps became permanent communities, though they remained poor and often lacked even the most basic amenities. These Sath outposts frequently found themselves at odds with their human neighbours. In 5596AD the Ka'sa Faction of the Sath Alliance invaded Jacent on the pretext, among other things, of protecting the rights of these Sath communities.
