Ishker is a poor, nonindustrial world.

• As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
• This world has few prospects for economic development.
• This world is a "Twilight Zone World", a planet that is tidally-locked to its star. It has a hot side that permanently faces the star, a cold side that permanently faces away, and a narrow twilight zone in-between.
• It is a member of The Last Line in the Murada Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data

Vemment-Ishker System

The primary is Vemment, an ordinary red main sequence star. Vemment and Rallam, the companion, orbit around one another at a mean separation of 37.6 AU (5.6 billion km) and have an orbital period around their barycenter of 35 years. Vemment has a luminosity of 0.034 Sols, a mass of 0.458 Sols and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I) Ishker orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) a trace atmosphere radworld, (III) a vacuum iceworld, and (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. All of the worlds retain satellites.

Rallam Subsystem

The companion is Rallam, an ordinary red main sequence star. Rallam and Vemment, the primary, orbit around one another at a mean separation of 37.6 AU (5.6 billion km) and have an orbital period around their barycenter of 35 years. Rallam has a luminosity of 0.027 Sols, a mass of 0.426 Sols and a diameter of 658,000 km. (I) a dense planetoid belt rich in nickel-iron bodies lies within the habitable zone. (II) a vacuum iceworld and (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer zone. All of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I) Ishker

(I) Ishker is designated the mainworld. It orbits Vemment at a mean distance of 0.18 AU (26.9 million km) and has an orbital period of 36 days 15 hours: it is tidally locked to Vemment. The axial tilt is 5 degrees. Ishker has a diameter 4,625 km, a density of 4.77 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.32 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Vemment cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.35 bar and a composition of 81% nitrogen (N₂), 18% oxygen (O₂), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon dioxide (CO₂), water vapor (H₂O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 14% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water and water ice: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 3°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star crawl across the globe. The climate is static.

Native Lifeforms

Ishker, the mainworld, lying within the habitable zone, has extensive native life, consisting of minute multicellular organisms that can be found in most ecological niches. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.

Ishker has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
