Irlu has the population located in one or more dwarf planets or planetesimals in a co-orbital position, an asteroid belt. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. Government control of this world is by an external military force. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Khandi Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Irlu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Nobility charged with overseeing the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Kim.

History and background

The system is owned by a cartel of mining houses based at Gakhir (Dagudashaag 2413), the Gakhir Cartel, with all decisions taken by administrators appointed from the home world. Since 1066 native-born Irlu have been pressing for a degree of self government. The reactionary mining houses resisted all demands. Over the years the protests have been peaceful, but in 1109 a leaked IISS intelligence report expressed concern about violence breaking out. Unsubstantiated media reports have also suggested megacorporations support for the Irlu home-rule movement.

The Gakhir mining houses are jealous in their ownership of the Irlu belts. Independent prospecting craft — or any ships wandering into the wrong parts of the system — are likely to be harassed by patrol cruisers of the Gakhir navy. Irlu's belts posses an above average number of asteroids, but have witnessed few rich finds in the last hundred years.
