Irikusk is a poor, nonindustrial desert hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often form intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • This world has no free-standing water.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Irikusk Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data

Kamatha-Irikusk System

The primary is Kamatha, a red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2485 Sols, a mass of 8.3 Sols, and a diameter of 409.072 million km – the corona of the star extends to 1.37 AU, just within orbital position (V). The inner system consists of (VI) a vacuum worldlet, (VII) a trace atmosphere inner world, (VIII) an exotic atmosphere radworld, and (IX) an exotic atmosphere stormworld – orbital position (V) is empty. (X-I) Yorren, a small gas giant: (X-Ia) Irikusk is its inner satellite, and (X-II) a sparse stony planetoid belt have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. (X-II) a ringed large gas giant, (XI) a small ice giant, and (XII) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

(X-I) Yorren

(X-I) Yorren is a small gas giant that orbits Kamatha at a mean distance of 35.7 AU (5.3 billion km), within the habitable zone, and has an orbital period of 74 years 14 days. It has a diameter of 39,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 92% hydrogen (H2), 8% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a pale blue colour with bands of high altitude white cloud. It retains a family of two major satellites.

Satellites

Yorren retains two major satellites:

(X-Ia) Irikusk, designated the mainworld, orbiting at 7 Diameters/275,000 km)
(X-Ib) Malakusk (UWP Y3A0000-0, orbiting at 13 Diameters/510,000 km)

Mainworld Data

(X-Ia) Irikusk

(X-Ia) Irikusk is the inner of the two major moons of (X-I) Yorren and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 7 diameters (275,000 km), with an orbital period of 20 days 11 hours: it is tidally locked to Yorren. The axial tilt is 3 degrees relative to Yorren. Irikusk has a diameter of 6,528 km, a density of 3.76 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.35 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Yorren cause regular geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.57 bar and a composition of 84% nitrogen (N2), 15% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen and the relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates exceed 6 rads per hour. Irikusk is a desert world: around 0.6% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 38°C. The climate is rated as Hot and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is slow and minor weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 134 million km², Land surface area: 133.2 million km², Water surface area: 800,000 km².

  • The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between the extremely high levels of UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.

Native Lifeforms

Kamatha-Irikusk System

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Irikusk has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Irikusk possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Irikusk is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.
