Imperial Academy of Science and Medicine
The Imperial Academy of Science and Medicine (IASM) is the training-ground for most of the top Imperial scientists, medical practioners, and researchers.
Description (Specifications)
Admission to the IASM can be achieved in two ways:
- Through direct application and acceptance;
- Through transfer from another organization.
A direct application is only accepted from individuals of high Social Standing and a strong educational background. The IASM has both undergraduate and graduate level programs. Individuals accepted thru direct application may receive a degree at the undergraduate level, or may receive advanced graduate-level degrees as high as a doctorate.
A transfer from another organization is a temporary transfer from the original service organization to the academy, and is open only to commissioned officers and the equivalent with the appropriate social standing and educational background, and is for a single 4 year term. Transferred officers are automatically assigned to the college most closely related to their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and pursue graduate level work, since they have already completed their undergraduate educations, after which they are returned to their prior service and receive an automatic promotion of one rank.
The Academy consists of 4 colleges: the College of Medicine, the College of Physical Sciences, the College of Social Sciences, and the College of Engineering.
Graduates of the IASM may be accepted as a member of the Imperial Science Union (ISU), and may even be granted one of the Union's lab ships.
