Description (Planetology)

This world is a gas-giant moon.

Much of Ikaakur's surface is covered by a thick layer of ice. Underneath this surface is a vast liquid water ocean complete with its own native ecology.

Ikaakur is a high-population gas-giant moon located in Concord Subsector of the Solomani Rim. The system is a member of the Imperium and has been issued an Amber Zone travel advisory.

World Starport

Ikaakur has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

Urbanization

Human settlement on Ikaakur comes in three layers.

• Extensive sealed habitats and underground cities are found on the moon’s “continents”, serving the starport and vital industries.
• Several habitats have been built under the ice in shallow water, serving as bases for exploitation of the moon’s maritime resources.
• Finally, a significant fraction of the population live nomadically near the ocean floor, in submersible vehicles or ocean-bottom habitats.

Historical Data

A Vilani refueling station was established on a different moon of the gas giant during the Ziru Sirka, but Ikaakur itself remained virtually unexplored. A Terran expedition in about -2100 first discovered the moon’s oceans, and subsequent expeditions categorized the native lifeforms and their uses. Colonization followed, and by the time of the Long Night a thriving settlement existed.
