An IR Sensor detects infrared radiation.

  • It is a type of Sensor
  • IR sensing equipment relies on accurate metrics.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Infrared (IR) is a region of the electromagnetic radiation spectrum: infrared waves are longer than those of visible light but shorter than those of radio waves.

  • Infrared sensors can be used to detect sources of heat, such as the bodies of sophonts or vehicle power plants.
  • Short-range portable or handheld versions are frequently used in engineering applications.

Sensor Overview[edit]

IR Sensors correspond to vision:

  • Edge of infrared: 750nm (Aglow)
  • Near infrared: 820nm (Nearir)
  • Infrared: 890nm (Ir)
  • Far infrared: 1000nm (Farir)
  • Extreme infrared: 2000nm (Xir)
  • Beyond extreme infrared: 4000nm (Zir)

Active IR[edit]

An active infrared sensor emits infrared radiation and measures the reflected energy.

Passive IR[edit]

A passive infrared sensor measures infrared energy radiating from objects in its field of view.

  • HRT (High-Resolution Thermal)
  • IR Goggles
  • Thermal imaging

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Infrared sensors are available from TL-5 onwards.
