Subsector G of the Beyond Sector, named for its native polity.
Description[edit]
This subsector takes its name from the ruling race within its boundaries, the Sred*Ni, and their unique form of government.
After acquiring human-built jump drives, the Sred*Ni expanded to six nearby systems, constructing outposts at each. This established the current Heptad or Protectorate, possibly linked conceptually to the seven Sred*Ni castes involved in communal decision-making (an eighth have no input).
I'Sred!Ni expansion stopped after this, and they adopted a strict quarantine around their space. Establishment of Protectorate embassies at Shalukin and Web Edge in 347 and 648, to permit limited economic exchange with aliens, is the extent of constructive engagement with outside influences.
The rimward part of the subsector consists of non-aligned human colonies. By far the most populous of these is Beriel (Beyond 1918); it is also the only one to have any degree of military power.

Astrographic Features & Trade Routes[edit]
The port of Shalukin is one of two authorised trading interfaces to the I'Sred*Ni Protectorate, and also the link to Tartakover (Beyond 1810) and trade routes to the Principality of Bruhkarr, Katanga Empire, and eventually the Third Imperium.
To rimward, Beriel provides jump-3 access to the Stormhaven Republic.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The Sred*Ni are not overfond of granting entrance to the Heptad to Z'Sred*Ni (or non-Sred*Ni). As a result the Travellers' Aid Society considers the entire subsector one large Amber Zone. Any travel within its borders is done on an "at your own risk" basis and the Imperium will not interfere with Heptad decisions regarding the punishment or imprisonment of their citizens.
Economic exchange occurs through the Web Edge Consortium.
