Hyde is a poor, nonindustrial world.

  • As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
  • This world has few prospects for economic development.
  • It is a part of the Liberated Stars in the Cradle Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

System Data

Paule-Hyde System

The primary is Paule, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.04 Sols, a mass of 0.489 Sols, and a diameter of 764,000 km. (I) Hyde orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (IV) a large gas giant, and (V) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data

(I) Hyde

(I) Hyde is designated the mainworld. It orbits Paule at a mean distance of 0.22 AU (32.9 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 53 days 21.5 hours: it is tidally locked to Paule. The axial tilt is 2 degrees. Hyde has a diameter 2,950 km, a density of 4.54 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.19 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Paule cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.24 bar and a composition of 88% nitrogen (N2), 11% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the very low percentage of oxygen. Approximately 8% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water: average tidal ranges are negligible. Mean surface temperature: –46°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography

Total surface area: 27 million km², Land surface area: 25 million km², Water surface area: 2 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Hyde, the mainworld, has extensive but primitive native life, entirely consisting of extremophile microscopic organisms that exist anywhere that they can find warmth and liquid water. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal and are gradually changing the atmospheric composition.

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Hyde has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Hyde possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government

Hyde has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.

World Military

Local Defense Forces (approximately 3,000 personnel).

Unity of Sed militia forces (approximately 24,000 personnel).

They manufacture and export the Recognized Excellence class Carry-Alls for use on occupied worlds among the Liberated Stars.

World Economy

  • Resources: 8 (Moderate)
  • Labor: 4 (Tens of thousands)
  • Infrastructure: 4 (Very limited)
  • Efficiency: −5 (Extremely poor)
