System Data

Joddell-Herat System

The primary is Joddell, an ordinary orange main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.284 Sols, a mass of 0.723 Sols and a diameter of 1.073 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum inner world, and (II) a trace atmosphere hospiable world. (III) Morogan, a large gas giant, orbits in the habitable zone; (IIIc) Herat, its outer moon, is designated the mainworld. (IV) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (V) a small gas giant, (VI) a small ice giant, (VII) a very thin atmosphere radworld, (VIII) a vacuum iceworld, (IX) a large gas giant, and (X) a sparse stony planetoid belt form the outer system. Most of the worlds retain satellites.

(III) Morogan

(III) Morogan is a large gas giant that orbits Joddell at a mean distance of 0.66 AU (98.7 million km), within the habitable zone, and has an orbital period of 1 year 29 days. It has a diameter of 86,000km km and an atmosphere consisting of 90% hydrogen (H2), 10% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a heavily banded reddish-brown color. It retains a family of three major satellites.

Satellites

Morogan retains three major satellites:

(IIIa) Abasta (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 8 Diameters/690,000 km)
(IIIb) Zim (UWP Y4A0000-0, orbiting at 14 Diameters/1.2 million km)
(IIIc) Herat (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 45 Diameters/3.87 million km)

Mainworld Data

(IIIc) Herat

(IIIc) Herat is the outer of the three major moons of (III) Morogan and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 45 diameters (3.87 million km), with an orbital period of 1 year 362 days: it is tidally locked to Morogan. The axial tilt is 5 degrees relative to Morogan. Herat has a diameter of 8,189 km, a density of 3.91 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.46 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Morogan cause occasional geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.61 bar and a composition of 77% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), xenon (Xe) and neon (Ne), and 1% water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), azane (NH3) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high percentage of inert gases, principally argon, xenon and neon, released by seismic outgassing. Around 63% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.25m. Mean surface temperature: 7°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Cool and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 211 million km², Water surface area: 133 million km², Land surface area: 78 million km².

Native Lifeforms

Joddell-Herat System

Herat, the mainworld, has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in almost every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.

No other world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)

No information yet available.

World starport

Herat has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

World technology level

Herat possesses a Technology Level of TL–0.

  • These worlds often contain a Proto-Sophont species beginning to establish a nascent civilization and society.
  • This world is in its Alpha Period and has not yet been interfered with by a higher technology civilization.
  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Bodily communicative apparati, courier-runners, and smoke signals.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Bodily muscle.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Bodily locomotion, riding beasts, and litters or sedan chairs.
    • Water: Swimming, rafts, and canoes.
    • Air: Typically not available unless a bodily ability.

World government

Herat has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
